I was able to get both the SWA plus & premier this spring (with WAY too high of a credit line...doesnt matter, I wont use much of it) to get 110K pts to get a companion pass.
Has anyone also gotten a Chase Sapphire preferred card? (also?)
yes, if you have good credit, you can have both- you can transfer the UR points to SWA, but they don't count towards companion pass.just regular old free flights. (it would be so great if they did count)
With Chase, you may get a denial for your new credit card. In most cases, if you call the reconsideration telephone number, they will approve the new card if you move some of the credit limit from your existing cards. Best of luck. -- Suzanne

If you run the UR through one of the hotel point programs you can get the UR to qualify for the companion pass. You don't get full value of the UR points but it is a decent trade off. I think when I did this I ran my UR through Hyatt to get them to count towards the pass. It worked perfectly when I did it late last year and have enjoyed my companion pass since Nov 2013! Flyer Talk has a wealth of info on this type thing.
And one last thing... yes you can get a Saphire card when you have two SW cards. I have all three and a couple of Disney CC, Amazon and United and they are all Chase cards!
