She is 29 weeks pregnant. She was in the hospital was night for dehydrating because she felt so ill she couldn't keep anything down. So they let her go around 3am but told her to go to ob/gyn for a follow up today. She went and now they are sending her back to the hospital because her blood pressure is VERY high and she is swollen and that with the headache and other symptoms are signs of pre eclamsia.

We could use some prayers and pixie dust if you can spare any please. I know what pre eclamsia is and I know in extreme circumstances, the baby has to be delivered early. But I don't know what they can do to help it and help her.

Prayers being said for your sister.

Prayers and good thoughts for your sister. Here is a hug for you. :grouphug: Sometimes we just feel so helpless. I hope everything works out for your sister and the baby.

:grouphug: Hugs to you and your sister!

I had pre-eclampsia and was put on bed rest, but DS was almost full term when it happened.

While your sis is in the hospital they can try to get her BP under control, and they can also give the baby steroids to help his/her lungs mature. 29 weeks isn't the best time to deliver, but it isn't unheard of! A little girl from our preschool was born at about 26 weeks and she only weighed 17 oz. She does have some health issues, but all things considered she does really well! Technology has made such tremendous advances in caring for preemies that a lot of things are possible now that weren't possible a few years ago, especially if the doctors are able to intervene early. Let us know how things are going!

I had issues with pre term labor at 29 weeks so it's kinda hitting home to me. I had to have the steriods for my ds lungs and was in the hospital on bed rest. Made it to 34 1/2 weeks before I delivered him. So I'm hoping all will work out to get to at least 34 weeks. My ds spent a week in the hospital because his lungs weren't quite ready but otherwise he's a perfect little guy.

keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Prayers and :grouphug: for your sister. Hope everything turns out well for her and the baby.

Positive thoughts and prayers from MD for your sis and her little one.

Updated - she is being sent home, no pre eclampsia. I guess she was so dehydrated still that it was raising her blood pressure. And because she'd gotten so much iv fluids, it was making her swell. But they are sending her home with anti nausia meds and procardia.... so things look much better. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Glad she is doing better. Hope the rest of her pregnancy is uneventful and she has a happy & healthy baby. :grouphug:

Glad to hear your sister is doing better. Our prayers are with your family and that sweet little gift from god!

I am SO sorry your sis is going through this....it is NO fun, especially as she nears the "big" part. You just shouldn't be sick AND huge AND hot!

I had the horrible nausea/vomiting and dehydration thing for 9 months with my second DD. Threw up before class, held it during class, then threw up at the end of class (I teach at a university). Even had students follow me into the bathroom to ask questions as I threw up! Didn't realize I was in labor because I had regular (Every 3 minute) waves of nausea rather than contractions- got to the hospital at 7cm dilated and she was born 45 minutes later (they kept my legs crossed for about 40 minuts- I swear......okay, it just felt like it). Good news was a VERY easy delivery and birth. She is now 14, almost 15. I remind her of the torture she put me through when she cops an attitude! On the other hand- every minute and every puke was worth it!

Good news about no preeclampsia. Hopefully, this kid will settle down and let her feel better soon. If not, tell her to keep a diary. When the kid comes home late or acts out as a teen- the punishment can be reading each daily entry with the gory details! THAT will be true payback (actually, payback is having your own kids).

11 weeks is not very long....she will be surprised how fast the birth time will be here. My family will keep sis in our prayers- for a calmer stomach, for a healthy birth, and for a happy and blessed family. Good thing she has a great sister like you to offer her support and the barf bag!

I'll say a prayer that everything will be safe and easy the rest of the way out.

I'm glad to hear that she doesn't have pre-eclampsia. I will continue to say prayers that she gets better and has a smooth remainder of the pregnancy. :grouphug:
