we booked an eight night cruise for 2019. Then decided to book a four night cruise in 2018. Can we get a placeholder on the 2018 cruise and use it to get 10% off the eight night in 2019? I am thinking we would have to cancel the 2019 and rebook.
Thanks

Yes, you'd have to cancel it and rebook, but they can help you do that (even if you want to rebook the same stateroom.) In that case you might be better off not booking a placeholder and just rebooking the 8 night cruise while you are on the 4 night cruise.

Make sure you check and see that you'd actually be saving money on the 2019 cruise by rebooking it.

Was the insurance purchased through DCL? Or private? If it's through DCL, that insurance isn't technically purchased until the PIF date, so I believe you should be refunded the cost of insurance that was added to the cruise fare. If you purchased it through a 3rd party, you'll need to check with the agent.

Enjoy your cruises!

If you purchased from a 3rd party, you can often have the policy transferred to the new reservation. Since you are canceling and rebooking the same cruise, there's a good chance the insurer will have no issues. Really, if it weren't for the date of purchase changing, they wouldn't even be able to tell it was a new reservation. Contact the insurer you purchased the policy from, or the website which sold the policy, and ask.

Thanks

We signed up for insurance too. Would we lose money from that?
Not if you haven't paid in full. Once you pay in full, DCL's insurance is nonrefundable. But before you pay in full, it will be refunded as part of the total cruise cost.
