Need help fast. I just called to add some things to my reservation and happended to ask the guy what exactly does "Crib-Not full size" mean on my resi confirmation? He read off the computer screen (not ever TRYING to sound natural! :) ) that it meant it is a playpen, A.K.A. Pack-N-Play. I practicaly reached thru the phone to choke him. I almost began crying as I hysterically screamed to him that MY BABY DOES NOT SLEEP IN A PACK N PLAY AND I THUS SPENT MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON A DELUXE HOTEL IN WHICH I WILL GET NO SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked him if there was some secret Disney code I had to say to get a normal portable crib? He said no. I asked can I rent one form a local rental place? He said no, only wheelchairs can be rented in. I asked him is there no place in the entire resort that has a crib?? You mean to tell me ALL OF DISNEY forces babies into pack-n-plays???!!!!!

Trust me, I have actually lost sleep over this and am seriously considering bringing drugs to put me out of my misery. DD has proven over and over that she will scream all night in one of those and when in the bed with us she literally crawls and falls out all night long. It is a nightmare. This is just putting me over the edge of insanity.

Is this true? Must she be in a pack-n-play???????? Do I need to call my GP and get a script for Paxil??? Ambien?!?!?!?!?!?!

Hi,

I feel your pain. In 2004 DS3 was 15 months old. I felt the same way that you did. However, we have a timeshare (also only offering pack-n-plays). I was able to rent a crib from an outside company. Now, if Disney won't let you bring them in (which I find hard to believe), have DH meet them at the gate.

Be forewarned, however, the rental cribs are horrific....the mattresses feel like a stone slab. This time when we go, DS4 (18 months), will sleep in a pack-n-play. But he'll sleep anywhere.

Also....they are so exhausted at the end of the day, you may be fine.

Good luck to you....

btw, I'm also in South Jersey....

Trixie

PS when will you be in WDW?

There is a local service that I have seen several postings about on this board called "A Baby's Best Friend" rental service. http://www.abbf.com/

I have never used them. Might be an option for you to get a crib and the delivery is free.

we are heading there next month with 2yo dd. She is now in a real bed (toddler bed), but dh called to ask our facility if we could have a crib since she is getting so long. We are staying in a suite at a time share near Disney property. We were told that they only have the porta crib type things, but that they could get a roll away cot to push up against our King bed, or she could sleep in the second room on a pull out couch. We reserved a porta crib and decided that we would decide what to do once we get there.
It is my understanding from speaking to reservations that the porta cribs are standard all around. I wouldn't sweat the small stuff - if that is the worst of your worries, then I think you are blessed. Try to stay positive and enjoy, regardless of what you find out!

You absolutely CAN rent a crib from an outside service. We did for our last trip. We used A Baby's Best Friend www.abbf.com

The crib was fine - it was not "horrific."

You didn't mention which hotel you are staying at. Some do have "real" cribs, but not many and I would think it is first come first serve. The only hotel I have ever gotten a real crib at was the Grand Floridian, but I've never requested a crib. The kids are so tired at the end of the day they would sleep on a rock if they had to.

Ditto on A Baby's Best Friend. We're in the same boat, and have already put in our reservation for our next trip. I've heard great things about this service as well as the products. It stinks that you'll have to pay extra, but IMHO it's worth every penny! :-)

I've heard of people using this complany for their Disney trips. I think I remember saying they didn't have any issues getting a portable crib.

Yes, we were told that disney only has pack n plays also, and that is all we have ever received. What I really don't understand, is that according to disney, children under 3 are free and you are allowed to sleep 5 in a room if one child is under 3. I'm assuming that this means 4 in beds, one in a pack n play. Problem is, many 2-1/2 year olds are too big for a pack n play according to the manufacturer recommendations which is less than 35 inches and under 30 lbs. Does disney realize this? Are they suggesting that guests should go against the manufacturer safety recommendations? I would think this would be a potential lawsuit waiting to happen. They really should have a better option, especially for larger babies/toddlers.

We have had two portable cribs (not pack n plays) at Disney resorts - once at the Beach Club and once at Vero Beach. Both times they were half-sized cribs - as tall as regular cribs, but only half as big. I am not sure why we got them - we didn't request anything special. It worked fine when DD7 was 9 months old, but when DD3 was almost 2, she wouldn't sleep in it. She could see everyone else in beds in the room, so she ended up sleeping with me and we put pillows on the other side of her. DD7 slept in the daybed and DH in the other bed. The daybed might be a good option for you - it is smaller than the other beds and lower to the ground, but you might not be able to keep your child in it. My kids have always been so tired that they went to sleep once the excitement of the day wore off. Good luck!

I do know your plight...have experienced this problem 3x now. We have stayed at DVC for all of our trips, but we were able to get portable cribs each time. They are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The first 2 we got were nice big cribs (albeit metal), but the same size as what DS sleeps in at home. It was a dream. Our last trip we did get a metal crib again, but it was the same size as a pnp. DS slept well in it though. I think his problem is that the mattresses in pnp's are wafer thin. While this crib was smaller, it did have a nice, thick mattress.

I don't think many of the Disney resorts do have cribs other than pnps, but you can easily rent one from abbf.com as mentioned above. The cribs are supposed to be easily assembled in 10 minutes with no tools required. I believe then are wooden. They will deliver them to your resort unassembled and somebody from belhop will deliver it to your room. It should be NO PROBLEM, other than an extra cost--I think around $70 for a week.

Another piece of advice is to call the hotel directly and ask to be transferred to mousekeeping. These are the people who dole out the cribs and pnp's and they should know what they have available.

I wouldn't heed the advice of "they'll be so tired, they'll sleep anywhere." Your DC might, but ours did not. We have been there, done that and it's no fun.

Good luck and let us know how it works out!

I would definitely recommend A Baby's Best Friend if you really want a crib. We have one that never really slept well in a PNP or portacrib, and even if he did, he's too long for either now. We have rented from them several times and have never had any problems. They deliver to your resort and bell services will bring it up to your room. You do have to put it togeter, but it takes about 10 minutes and no tools are required. Very easy! We'll be renting from them again in October.

Was just trying to figure our wha to do. My DS hates the pack and play an only sleeps about 45 min to an hour at a time in it. This past MAy when we were in the World I gave in and put him in the bed with us. I might be calling and renting a crib for our trip over Thanksgiving.

I'm seriously considering renting a crib for our trip. My ds does not sleep well away from home/away from his bed! Anyone know how easy they are to transport? We are staying at 3 different hotels!

The cribs from www.abbf.com come in a big box (they are quite heavy) and the mattress and bedding come in plastic bags. Even if the cribs are easy to set up, I wouldn´t want to unpack and repack it 3 times.

Depending on your ds´s age I would consider a toddler bed. At least it is not as heavy and comes already assembled and in a plastic bag.

Another vote here for A Baby's Best Friend. We have used them twice (in January at POP, and in August at the Wilderness Lodge) It is totally fine to rent from them when staying at Disney. Both times the bell staff had a little trouble locating the crib, but that was their own fault, not the companys. The cribs were fine, if anything the matress was softer than the firm one we have at home, but he was so tired that he slept fine on it. They send nice clean Disney bedding with it (matress pad, sheet, bumpers, blanket and comforter) and the crib is easy to assemble with no tools. IMHO, it is worth the extra money to make sure that he (and in turn, we) sleep better while we're away. I'd rather that than have an unhappy toddler every day of our vacation!!
