Can I eat at Shades of Green?

Dh and stayed there 11 years ago with my inlaws and remember the food to be pretty good. My question is can we eat there is we are not staying there??

The shops/restaraunts on SoG only check for DoD ID cards where the sale of alcoholic beverages (at the AAFES store) is involved.

Otherwise, you should be good to go...

This is a recurring point of confusion. Here is the official position from the SoG website FAQ section:

Q: Can I dine in your restaurant even if I do not hold a reservation at Shades of Green?

A: Yes. You will be asked to provide a valid military ID to access Shades of Green property.

I was never asked to show any type of ID when I ordered cocktails at the restaurants. They probably only check if you look underage, like any establishment.

This is where I get confused. Because I saw this before. Now, if you do not have an ID, don't they keep you from accessing the facility entirely?

You are stopped at the gate and asked to show your i.d. before entrance.

The SOG shares the same driveway as the golf courses (I think it's the Palm, Magnolia and Oak Trail). You have to go through the security gate to get there. So I'm not sure how they could stop someone from visiting the pro shop, then sneaking into the SOG for food and drinks.

I'm not suggesting anyone should break the rules. But I never understood how they prevented this. Because I've never been asked for ID once inside the SOG.

Just an FYI -

My DH ate at the Garden Galley (I think that's the name of it), the buffet restaurant, last week and he said it was awful. He said it wasn't even as good as Bonanza, Golden Corral. Also, he overheard some women talking about eating at the Italian restaurant there and they said it was the most disgusting meal ever. So based on these anecdotal reviews, it's probably not worth the trip there to eat anyway.

UGH!!! Why would you EVER want to eat there??? The food is among the worst on the property. The rooms are fabulous but the food STINKS. Spend your $$$ elsewhere. Cindy

Ok that is very good to know...I was clicking on menus on the allears.net site and I guess I wasnt reading the resorts and DH saw the buffets...he wanted to go there but forget it...I guess even if I could get in I wouldnt want to
