Can I do this?

I don't want to call DCL up one more time and bother them (because I've already requested a friend's favorite server, let them know I use a cane, and asked that we be seated at a table alone because my grown son is mildly autistic and hates feeling on display when he eats) but is it possible to request a children's menu for an adult and order (particularly starters) off it? Especially since the fussy adult isn't the one with developmental issues. Also is it possible to order plain sides, probably rice and carrots, with entrees? DH (the fussy one) is good at picking around menus and won't starve regardless, but I always like to have strategies in advance.

Also does anyone know if they still offer the character breakfast and what late night snacks are available? We're doing a three day on the Magic.

Thanks!

Absolutely! You can order whatever you want off whatever menu you want.

I don't have first had experience with your second question (re: plain veggies), but I do know that they try to be as accommodating as possible. Just speak with your server the first night and explain what you're looking for.

I have no idea about character breakfasts...sorry

My hubby is a meat and potatoes man. No sauces, etc. We were able to order him a sirloin with plain baked potato, or just leave the sauce off of menus. Yes, anybody can order off the kids menus. The servers are very accommodating. We joked with them that there was never lemon meringue pie for dessert and then next night the head server brought 2 small tart size lemon meringu pies to our table at dessert time!

Rice is on the menu every night, under the bottom section(lighter offerings it may be called). I often get that as a side instead of the potatoes that come with the meal I order. In fact I had it 3 of the 4 nights on the Dream last week.
As for requesting a kids menu, if you do not have one at the table, just ask the servers and they will get you one. Now that my kids are older we don't routinely get one but I have been known to ask for one(I like the spaghetti and meatballs ;) ).

Sounds like my husband, although mine won't even eat the potato!

Thanks everybody!

You certainly can ask for a child's menu, I do it frequently as I find stuff there I'd rather have on occasion. Yes, you can get plain rice, steamed veggies, just ask.

The character breakfast is only on 7 night and longer cruises. And it's not handled the same as before, you pick up tickets on embarkation day for a specific breakfast (on those cruises that have them). And, most of the time, it's Disney Jr. characters, not the "regular" Disney characters.

You can order anything off of any menu. :) My 13 year old son prefers the kids menu options. My 14 year old daughter likes to have steak and white rice most evenings off the main menu. The recent cruise though they both branched out and tried something new...but they always have the standby favorites to turn to.

The first nights dinner is the best time to let your servers know about preferences like kids menus, lighter fare offerings (white rice, chicken, steak , baked potatos and a type of light fish entree). Or anything else you can think of that will make your dining experiences better.

Also, once you order a soda or beverage at dinner once, you will find it on your table the next nights as well. I order a Diet Coke and my son orders apple juice the first night. Every night after that without fail, there is a diet coke and apple juice on the table waiting for us.
AND they put it at the same location at the table that we sat at the night before. Attention to detail is the key here, I think, and our servers have been VERY detail oriented.

Enjoy your cruise. :)

That can cause some issues if you have a large table that switches seats every night :rolleyes1. On our first cruise, our servers quickly wised up and just had all the drinks sitting on a service tray near our table until everyone started showing up. We changed our seating arrangements every night.

Good point! :) It is just the four of us everytime and we always tend to sit in the same spots. Creatures of habit evidently. lol

We like to be at larger tables (6 or 8) and we don't think it's fair that the same people get the "best" view of the dining rooms all the time, so we discuss at dinner the first night about the possibility of switching throughout the cruise. Of course, this works best on long cruises (which we prefer).

Kids can also order from the Adult menu. Our 5 and 8 year old little men like it much better, adults can do the opposite.

Have no worries about calling, that's what they are for. Rest assured, you are not the only one.

Same with dining with strangers. We would switch up who sat where each night so we always got to dine next to someone else. Quite fun. Even the night we showed up and were the only couple at an 8 top. That was a fun night. :drinking1

Hi,

I'm an adult and I not only order from the kids menu but I also get crayons and tge coloring activity sheet. Btw, you can get a mickey bar with sprinkles in the MDRS for dessert ♡

I have a funny story about the kids menu...our daughter who was 4 at the time would get a kids menu each night, but she is not a pizza, burgers, mac and cheese kind of a kid, so she would order off the main menu: Prosciutto, rare steaks, shrimp, polenta, ...thats more her thing. Anyways, the one night DH really wanted the mac n cheese, so he ordered it off the kids menu. We were at our own 4-top table, but you know you are so close to the people next to you, its really like one giant banquet table. So anyways our (almost) table mates saw the mac n cheese and ordered it the next night. Well, by the 4th day, our servers were pre-placing a family size bowl of mac n cheese for 6 different families every single night the rest of our 14 night cruise. It was almost hilarious. They also started ordering Shirley Temples too. It was like "I want what they are having!"

I thought I was the only one that did this!!

Just wanted to add one thing -- if you use the Disney Navigator App, the menus including the kids menus are on there. So the picky eaters can check out the offerings on the regular menu and on the kids menu before getting to dinner. I just point that out because some people might be uncomfortable asking their server for the kid menu or ordering off the coloring sheet.
