Can I do this with the DP?

O.k. so this fall will be the first year one of our three kids qualifies as a "Disney adult", as she will be 10. So in our family there will be 3 Disney adults, and two disney kids. We plan to be at the parks for 8 nights.

My problem is that my 10 year old daughter most likely will not like the options on the adult menu. She does like the kids menu options still. So many times, a full adult TS meal would be wasted on her.

I'm wonding if there is a way I can pay out of pocket for a kids meal for her and bank that adult TS credit. So bear with me here. If we are at a TS meal (and all 5 of us will be on the DP), can I forego using a table service credit for her and instead pay out of pocket for her meal? I would order her a kids meal since that is what she wants anyway. If I do this at three TS meals, I will bank 3 adult table service meals. I would also do this with one our disney kids twice (pay out of pocket for them and not use the DP). That way I will not use 3 adult TS meals and not use 2 kids TS meals. I would like to put those towards a Signature TS meal that requires two TS credits for each person.

I'm not scamming the system, since I am actually paying for the meals eaten instead of using a TS credit, but I'm just not sure if they let you do this. Allow some on the reservation to use credits, and some pay OOP, even though you are all on the same DP account. ANY help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dan

Yes, you can do that. While the meal credits are allocated per person, the belong to the room as a whole, and you can use them any way you like for people in that room (within the adult/child and maximum number of meals at one time limitations) and you can mix credits and OOP at the same meal.

Thank you VERY much for the reply!

I just want to be absolutely sure on this one, since the Signature restaurants I'm looking to book are not cheap and I want to insure that I'll have the credits to go there if I use the plan mentioned above.

Have you done this before, pay OOP for someone at your TS meal even though you are all on the DP under the same room?

Dan

No worries - people do this all the time. You can always pay cash for someone at the table - adult or child.

Yup...we just returned and bought ds10 a kids meals OOP and used the credits for additional meals. No one cared! We did it at:
Raglan Road
Le Cellier
Chefs de France
Yak n Yeti

we also split 2 meals among the 4 of us at 50's for lunch.

Yes, we have done similar. My DS3 didn't eat much and would just share a meal with me. We would bank his credits.

However, unless it is free dining you want to do the math. It may be more cost effective to pay all meals OOP unless you are on the free DDP.

Awesome!!! Wow, I'm actually surprised you were able to do that at 50's Prime Time Cafe. So you booked a reservation for 4 and ended only using two adult TS credits, and not paying OOP for anyone and all sharing? It's nice that you were able to do that.

Yeah, this is only going to happen if they offer FD. We will pay OOP for all meals if there is no FD. (and our meal plans will change significantly) Actually, we may not go at all if FD is not offered, as it is by far the best offer for our family since the room discount doesn't save us nearly as much since we stay at values or mod's (this year).

Thanks to all again! Love the info we can get on the Dis. :thumbsup2

Yes, we booked 50's for 4 adults.

ds10 wasn't hungry at all.
ds 12 wanted a chicken caesar salad
DH and I wanted fried chicken, but I can't eat a half chicken by myself!

We just told the waiter we had dinner reservations and wanted a light lunch.

My husband and I each ordered a Long Island Iced tea (for anyone interested don't bother...wasn't a real LI iced tea!)

Ds10 and ds 12 got the sodas that came with the meals.

then we had 2 desserts. My husband and son split but couldn't finish...the brownie sundae was huge.

OOP was for drinks only.

As long as you aren't going to buffets, F!, or all you care to eat (ex. Ohana) you can use the credits as you wish. So you could easily stretch them out to add a few more meals. We used all of our TS credits as follows:

Raglan Road: 3 adult TS, 1 kid OOP

Ohana : 4 adult TS

Le Cellier: 3 adult TS, 1 kid OOP

50's: 2 adult TS

Boatwrights: 2 adult TS (kids ate at the food court that night)

Yak N Yeti: 3 adult TS, 1 kid oop

Mama Melrose F! pkg: 4 adult credits

Le Chefs: 3 adults TS, 1 kid OOP

T-Rex: 4 adult TS...the day we were leaving and had 4 leftover to use.

Very cool. Yeah, you definately had a lot of flexability!

Dan

LOL! One of the waiters told us to look at it like a coupon. Each TS is good for 1 non-alcohol beverage, entree and dessert. You can order anything you want off the menu, apps, wine, beer, glow kiddie drinks, but at the end, each TS credit will take the appropriate items off the bill leaving you with a balance and a tip.

Many of our "free" dinners, cost anywhere from 60 to 75 dollars when tip and all OOP items were added in.

We have never had trouble or even a dirty look from the servers doing this in the parks. We usually have a cousin or two who have their own meal plans but are too little to have their KTTW with them.
Just check your ticket at the end to make sure the credits were subtracted right.

You just answered my question from another thread :cool1:

I'm so glad I found this thread as I was wondering about this too. :)

Our DD10 will still want to eat off the kid's menu at most locations, so at least now I know the TS credits won't be wasted. :goodvibes

Glad it helped!

I do find it ridiculous that the adult dining plan is required at age 10 already.

1) The adult plan is a MUCH higher cost than the child's plan (versus free dining)
2) I would bet most 10 year olds couldn't eat half of the amount that you get with an adult meal at the TS restaurants so a lot is wasted.
3) I think a lot of 10 year olds still prefer what is on the kids menu (I know mine loves the noodles and spaghetti sauce, or fish).

I can understand making park tickets "Disney Adult" at 10, but not the food. Maybe more like 12-13 would be appropriate as their taste in food is growing up. just my opinion though. :confused3
