Ok, so we have annual passes (non-DVC) currently. We just got our DVC contract in December. We are planning to renew our annual passes when they expire using the DVC rate for renewals. Can I, and do people generally, buy discounted tickets from Undercover tourist, use them once, and then use that to upgrade to a renewal DVC AP in order to save money?

Yes! just did that this year for a new pass though. It works the same although I can't remember if I have personally done that on a renewal. We have only renewed a few times.

You might be able to upgrade them to an AP, but not a renewed AP because they weren't an AP already. Once the ticket that was upgraded to an AP is about to expire, you could renew that one as an AP renewal.
