Can I do the Forbidden Journey line and skip the ride

I'm just coming along for the ride (or should I say coming along to look and not ride much) on a mid December day to parks when my mom (who loves thrill rides and spin stuff - no motion issues) and son (19) will be following a touring plan that has the attractions my son hasn't done before that he'd like to try and things he thinks are worth repeating from a previous visit.

My understanding is that I can stand with them for the queue for Forbidden Journey (I would like to see the castle stuff and visit with them the 20 some minutes for so that they will in line - touring plan projection). But how does this work and when do I get out of the line? Is this a pretty easy thing to do? Is it somewhat common for others to do this too?

Based on reports from others and my susceptibility to motion sickness these days, I have no interest in experiencing the ride portion of FJ.

Instead of staying at our resort that day with others in the family with motion issue and a lack of any interest in seeing IOA/US, I'm coming along to see the theming and will participate in the handful or so of tame attractions on the touring plan.

I have never ridden FJ, but have gone through the line multiple times. Don't miss it!

There are team members near the ride, just ask them and they will show you the door to leave. Take a peek at the loading area, too, it's cool!

I have motion sickness and have only done ET and the Seuss Trolley Ride, but I LOVED Gringott's ride!

Thanks so much for the post. That sound awesome / really easy to do. I'm planning to do Gringotts too. From everything I hear I should have no issues with that one.

lol I'm afraid Disney and SeaWorld (Manta and Kracken are still OK for one ride) are more my speed than Universal. IOA, Busch, and Cedar Point these days.

Great to hear from someone who sees Universal/IOA as worth going to just to see the theming too, especially given what I'm paying for the one day park to park ticket.

When you get to loading just tell them you want the chicken exit, I have done this with my friends.

I have motion sickness problems with the screens but in FJ I just look to the side and my friend taps my leg when the screens are over.

Go through all lines. They all have an exit. Dragon's Challenge was cool.

I can also do one ride on Flight of the Hippogriff, but that's pushing it. The queue is cool, too.

Thanks I'll do the Dragon Challenge queue too, but skip the ride. I wouldn't have thought of that, so I appreciate the post. The only queues I knew about being cool were FB and Gringotts and the latter I should be able to do the ride too.

Are any of the rides / simulators below ones that have queues that would be interesting too? These are on my list to skip from the two parks too:
Rip Ride Rockit
Despicable Me
Transformers

Also, the Hulk and the Mummy look like maybe they are reasonably smooth without too many video images and a lot of twists and turns. If so maybe I'll try them rather than skip. Does that sound right or do you think I'm misguided here? I do all the coaster at Disney, and am fine with Kracken and Manta at SeaWorld (love that first loop on Manta). The Wild Artic simulator at SeaWorld, though, makes me feel sick and is a skip.

I did stationary seating for Despicable Me. It was ok. Had to close my eyes quite a bit but it was fine. Shrek, too.

Eh.

I didn't go through the others.
