We've decided we want to take a couple extra days this trip to just relax around the resort. Am I able to change from my 6 day tickets to 4? We booked a free dining for October. I don't see any option online to do this.

Yes. Minimum park tickets required for Free Dining are basic two-day tickets. So in your instance, you can decrease your tickets. On the other hand, you can buy tickets for more park days than the length of your resort stay, up to a max of 10 park days. Many people do this who are staying at one resort for a few days, then at another resort right after that.

Do you get free dining for the length of your ticket or the length of your stay?

You can get Free Dining for up to a 14 night stay. But you only have to purchase basic two-day minimum tickets. After the maximum FD resort stay, you would have to book a new reservation.

If a Free Dining offer runs from the First to the 15th of a certain month, and your resort stay begins on the 15th and goes for up to 14 nights, you will get Free Dining for your entire length of stay, since the start of your reservation was within the FD offer dates.
