Can I buy a Disney Gift Card?

I wanted to get my children one for their spending money but I can only find how to buy one in the US?

Can I buy them here?

I don't want to use ebay as there's no knowing how much is really on the card.

Unfortunately you can't buy them in the UK. The ones sold in the UK Disney Store can't be used at WDW and the costs of getting the ones from the US shipped to the UK are prohibitive. Your other option might be to get someone who is going before you to buy them there for you.

Aww that's a shame! Where do you get them from in Disney? I did want to hand them over just after the big reveal on the way to the airport really

You can buy them from pretty much any shop on WDW property, I believe. Do you not know anyone you can ask to bring you some back? Alternatively, as much as a gift card is a nice idea, could you not just give them a little envelope with some $$$ in? I know my DS (who is 9) prefers the feel and look of cold, hard cash

Mine probably would too! lol That was my first idea until I thought about the cards today (someone posted about getting one on here!) and thought it would be nice to give to them for Disney stuff leaving their dollars for Kissimmee, Universal, Seaworld, I drive etc

I'll have to have a think who's there now!

I had this problem back for mothers day when I wanted to get a gift card/disney dollars for her trip (she leaves tomorrow, I'm green with envy but dancing for her ).

No gift cards were available in the UK and it was going to cost more to ship the Disney Dollars than the amount I was looking to buy
I hadn't even thought about asking a kind Dis'er to bring a card back so I searched for Disney Dollar images, printed out a couple in a large size and made them into envelopes and popped some regular US dollars inside.

You might prefer a gift card as it might look more safe to you, I prefer hard cash, even if I carry it for DS (4)

It's one of my first thing on my todo list when I'm in WDW.

We go to DTD as soon as we've checked in, and once we're there I pretend to need a bathroom break. Instead I sneak out to guest services and get a nice array of Disney Dollars. While DS is kept busy with some ice cream from ghirardelli's

That night, DS would find the enveloppe with his spending money inside, tucked under his pillow, or nicely held between his Duffy's paws.

I fully understand the convinience of a gift card, but I much prefer that DS gets the "feel" of cash before he gets used to plastic money too much

You could quickly nip into the Disney Store at MCO (if thats where you're landing) and buy them there. Send them off to pick up the cases and tell them you're nipping to the loo or something!

I had this dilemma a couple of years ago and again at Christmas when I wanted to give DD Disney gift card as a gift in advance.

I made a personal home made 'gift voucher' both times so and then collected the card at WDW. This year she is getting the one that came with our booking and it will just be collected when we check in. At least then you can give them something in their pre-trip pack

I would prefer to give a gift card than hard cash if I can. Another thing I did when she was much younger (no gift card that trip) was print some Disney money at home. She carried the pretend money with her in common denominations and whenever she wanted to spend, she would trade the Mickey or Minnie $10 or $20 bill for the real thing. I would then let her carry her change as it was little enough not to be a disaster if lost but made her feel she had some real cash on her too.

Sorry if it was my thread that caused the confusion.

We get a free gift card with the package we booked through disney and we pick it up once we get to the resort.

I think maybe cash would be better, that way if you do go out with WDW and the kids see something they can buy it. Only in WDW shops can the gift card be used.

I wanted to do exactly the same thing since this was a surprise trip we wanted to put there GC in the surprise packs and let them have the $$ for Universal and outside Disney spending but since we have decided we are not even telling them about Universal until the day they think we are flying home to the Uk then we wanted them to have the GC, now im going to have to look at doing Disney $ print offs and then changing it for the cash when we get to the hotel OR just giving them cash in a cool Disney envelope

You could make some fake ones maybe for the big reveal

DH made some realistic looking plane tickets for our surprise trip (we booked with cosmos who don't send tickets - the cosmos invoice wouldn't have had the same impact for DD aged 6 )

She thought they were the real tickets, we had to pretend to hand them in at the airport.

As a nice touch DH put our favourite character on. Not sure where DH got the template but I know there are lots of ideas on DISigns.

It's not that you can't get them delivered to the UK, it's the sheer cost of doing so ($25) plus the likely customs & excise/import duty.

Actually I bought DH one for our wedding present with a note surprising with him a round of golf at WDW and it didnt cost me anything in customs I bought $50 sorry I should have put that in my first post!

May be I bought ours through the Honeymoon registry I defiantly didnt pay extra for it though but I received a Gift card for it :S

Still a $25 postage cost (which I think is excessive since it's only a small plastic card) and, having just checked no customs or excise (unless over £135 in value) but would still have to pay import VAT (on anything over £15) plus a possible handling charge to the carrier (which the UK Post Office DOES charge as I have fallen foul of that before).

Since it is hit and miss whether or not you will be charged, personally I wouldn't take the risk on top of the excessive postage costs.

If you had a gift card delivered to your home which you bought from the US and didn't have to pay that hefty delivery charge and weren't charged import VAT, then you got off lightly

It would be easier and cheaper to find a UK DISer with an expended/expired GC, and have it sent to the OP, just to do the surprise.
The card could then be sent back to it's owner and replaced by the OP with a genuine one once in WDW

I'll see if I can find mine we kept them I have two a tinkerbell one and a cinderella carriage one I would be happy to post them to any one that wants them x
