I am planning on bringing small packets of laundry soap for the washing machines...will that work?

Sure. The washers on the ships are high efficiency, but they sell normal detergent. Go figure.

I take the Purex sheets that have both the detergent and fabric softener in one last time. I put a few in a ziploc bag. They worked out great and didn't take up much room.

Be careful when using the powdered detergent. I didn't realize the washers were high efficiency the first time we sailed (and many others didn't either) and the washers were so sudsy with soap that I had to keep rinsing out our clothes. I think I then only used about a half box of the powdered stuff and then had no trouble. Have a great cruise!:thumbsup2

I used this during our Med cruise a few weeks ago and loved them. They are great in a pinch for hand washing in the sink since they are like wash cloths with detergent on them. :laundy:

Do you mean half a box of what they have for sale on the ship?

I had read a tip somewhere on the DIS before I went on my cruise last month, and it worked wonderful. I'm very sensitive to soaps and perfumes and was concerned about what detergent would be available on the ship if I needed to do laundry. So, I took a washcloth, poured a small loads worth of my liquid laundry detergent onto it, rolled it up, and placed it in a plastic baggy (double bagged just in case). Then when I did decide to do a load of laundry I just tossed the washcloth in with the load.

The washers and dryers are $2.00 each and take your KTTW card, no coins (at least I didn't see coin slots). They did have detergent and fabric softener available, also $2.00. It said Tide but it seemed to have All in it.

The washers take you KTTW card now? We haven't cruised since Mar '09!
That is great. I won't have to worry about bringing quarters with me!!!

Yes, but, now we just pay for that convenience...the price jumped when they added this. Now $2 instead of $1.

I haven't used those yet, do you like them??

we used the Purex sheets on our last cruise and our college-age DS swears by them. They are super convenient (and now available in scent/dye-free).
