We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside. Can I go down to the food court at 6am and get food on a tray and bring it back to our room? Just asking. I do not know if your allowed to do this.

Yes, if your on the DDP, disney dining plan, they like to see all the people you are charging food for, but i've done it and i just showed their key to the world card. If your paying OOP(out of pocket) you can walk straight to your room.

I did. I just put the trash in the room trash can & left the tray on the table. Housekeeping always took it when they cleaned.

The thing you must do at Port Orleans-Riverside(POR) is go see Piano Bob. He plays in the bar/lounge Wed-Sat at 8:00pm. I think. Check with front desk. And bring the kids. I know it's in a bar but it's Disney so it's ok for the kids. Don't forget to tell Piano Bob where your from.

You sure can!

The last few trips, we discovered that it worked great for our family to have breakfast in the room before we left for the parks.
My awesome Hubby would take everyone's order and then would take one of our sons with him to get it all. It was a real time saver for us and it earned him the nickname "Breakfast Fairy" :tinker:
For some odd reason, he doesn't enjoy that name as much as I do! :confused3

This is not my experience, nor is it the experience of a number of dining plan users. One person using one KTTW card could in effect purchase enough meals on DDP for their entire party (although they might not be able to use it to purchase extra meals beyond the number of persons in their party).

We did it at POR and were on the dining plan. My DD and I went and got for for the 5 of us.

You can even ask for covers for the food so it will stay warm for the trip back to the room (if it was to begin with, that is).

Yes you can! We did this on our last visit because the food court was so packed that we couldn't find a table. I just asked for a lid at the food station and a bag at the cashier to make things easier to carry.

When I have stayed at the Contemporary I have ordered some things at the Contempo Cafe and sometimes I felt like eating in my room, so I was able to take them up there without any problems.

Now even though they don't have your standard Quick Service location when I have stayed at the Boardwalk Inn my family and I have brought back food we purchased from the Boardwalk Bakery, Boardwalk Pizza Window and Boardwalk To Go which we decided to eat in our room.

Yup. We never had any problems with them needing to see all the people. We never all walked through as a family. ;)

This is not true. There is and has never been any need to "see all the people you are charging food for".

This has not been our experience. Since you are not allowed to order more meals than you have showing on your KTTW card (say 2A 2C), there is no reason they would need to see the actual people.:confused3

Or carry all that food back to the room!

My 1st trip in 2008, I'd get an early walk... fill up the refillable mugs with coffee and bring back some hot chocolate chip pancakes and juice..... then enjoyed the peace and quiet while everyone else was just starting to wake up.

Now, my favorite breakfast is getting up early and heading to a character breakfast with an reservation before the park opens. Nothing better than getting a head start on the crowds.

We do that at the Poly. My DH just takes his card, tells them how many meals to take off the DDP (i.e. 2 adults + 2 child's meals or whatever we have), and it's never been a problem.

Only the bakery and grab it yourself items are open at 6am. That was my experience when I stayed at POR.

The hot food stations didn't open until 7am. It was in May 2010.

As everyone else said, you can definitely take food back to your room. I made sure to tell them it was to go if I was getting hot items so they'd put the covers on them.

Have a great time at POR. I really like that resort.

We have 2 rooms for our family so one room key says 1 adult, 3 children and the other card says 1 adult, 2 children. We ran in to snarky CM's at least twice last month that wanted to see that we had one meal for each person in our party. During the end of our trip we had quite a few QS meals left, and so during breakfast we'd sometimes get another adult meal to share among everyone if they were still hungry. We had one cashier that balked at this idea and said we couldn't do it. I don't understand why not? They were our QS meal credits and what would have been the difference if we'd sat down, ate and then came back and gotten another couple of meals to split?

On the other hand though....my oldest 2 would sometimes go through the line without us and use their room key, nothing was ever said to them about not getting the correct amount of meals.

We don't even try to beat the system by ordering all adult meals or re-using mugs LOL....but maybe some how we were breaking a rule? Oh and 2 of our 'children' are adults on the dining plan....but they don't show up as adults on the key cards, just added to the child total....so again not sure how they figure that out just from looking at your key card.

And when we were getting ready to check out, one of the cashiers said we could trade any QS meals we had left for 3 snacks a piece. I asked how many snacks the kids meals got and she said they all got 3 snacks each when traded.....so they don't see a difference on some items but you may run in to a cashier that wants to argue the point with you just because they can.

Don't forget to take some of those reusable totes to carry the food back to your room. The year before last I carried two of them and once you stack all those plates with covers on top of each other and put the bottled drinks down in the bags it made them easier to carry and kept all the lids on the plates :)

We do this All The Time. In fact I think the only time we don't eat breakfast in the room is if DS is sleeping in or if we have a character breakfast.

We stayed at AS Music in a family suite and we did this quite often. It was too much of a production for us to always take the whole crew to the food court for every meal which would include waiting in line to order food then wait in another line to check out. Upon our request, the CMs would always put plastic covers over our plates of food and the check out line CM would place everything in sturdy paper bags with handles, and usually me or DH would simply take the food back to our suite. We never had a CM request to see everyone that we were getting food for or even question things as long as you were using your own KTTW card to do the transaction.

Two trips ago everyone in our party (but myself) got stuck in the room for several days with the Norwalk virus, so I did this several times. Heck, I even got a meal at the Chinese QS in Epcot, and asked them to put it right into a to-go box so I could take it back to the room.
The guy did look at me kinda funny, but he did it just fine, and I got to eat my dinner with the rest of my family... Of course they were in the bathroom half the time...

Really hoping this doesn't happen again this trip.....
