I don't text, yes I am living under a rock! Anyways, lots of people at work send out mass text messages. I've asked to be taken off the lists, still get them. I don't even read them, just delete but am still being charged 20 cents a message. Any way to just block all incoming texts or will I have to pay AT&T to set it up and break even?

Yes you can block them, I had to do this because I too don't text, and ended up having to pay 2.20 because a kid kept texting me. :headache: just call and they will block text at no cost to you.

Some phones allow you to delete them without even opening and reading them and they won't charge you for the unread ones.

I have some idiot I met a few times at work who I barely know who texts me all the time asking "What are you doing?" I think she just added me to her "Group Send" or something. I have never answered her back. I just delete them now when I see her name come up. I'm not charged.

Thanks! I don't read the messages, just hit delete but am being charged anyways. I will be calling AT&T tomorrow to block them.

Terri, do you have AT&T or another carrier?

I have AT&T and have my texts blocked. All it takes is a phone call!

You're lucky, OP. I have t-Mobile. They can't (or won't) block text messages. I don't text, but receive text messages on a regular basis at $.15 per message. Once my contract with t-Mobile expires, I'm moving to another carrier.

I only get charged if I respond so I am not sure how to block them. I don't understand why they would charge you if you have no control over what someone sends you.

I have T-Mobile. i don't block texts as I have the unlimited plan but I just signed on to my account. I can change my services and it has a box to check to block chargable texts for free. I don't understand why they can't do that for you. I'd call them up.

We have T-Mobile and they CAN block texts, they just don't want to.

DH had a "conversation" with them, that finally resulted in texts being blocked. We were getting "spam" texts (i had no idea there were such things!) and being charged 20 cents each for them. I know 20 cents is not a big deal, but imagine if you got charged 20 cents for every spam email? It's the principle of it. I don't want the spam in the first place, I certainly don't want to PAY for the bother.

Also, DD *does* have texting on her phone and we have a family plan; we share 700 minutes. So only "commercial" texts are blocked. We can still receive texts from DD and also from our friends. I have a couple of friends who are very into texting and send out mass things like "Happy Easter" (the most recent) and I don't mind that. But I'm not paying for spam.

T-Mobile tried to tell us they couldn't do this, but if you are persistent, their technology improves itself. :rolleyes1

I have a friend who constantly sends me spam texts...i'm going to have to call at&t and have them to block spam texts. I hate that my # of texts allowed in my package decreases every time she sends the stupid things and she won't stop.

Thanks for letting me know that you can have them blocked.

Thank you. I guess I'll give them a call again. DD and I also share a family plan. She texts. I don't. I would like to block the commercial texts as well.

Believe, as to why they would charge us, it is totally to their advantage. They get paid each time someone sends us something we don't want.

Thanks everyone. I called AT&T today and got all texts to my phone blocked. I asked why I am being charged when I don't even read the text and just delete. They had no answer for me and said it must be a system error. Yeah ok that helps.

This must be a new feature. Because I have tmobile and called them last year(and looked online) about blocking texts(sending and receiving) and they couldn't do it. Now I see there is that option.

Oooh, that's good to know! I also have T mobile, and, Luddite that I am, only use it to talk . My phone is also more than THREE years old!:lmao: I'm such a cave girl.

Somebody texted me with a offer of free tickets, and I called them back and yelled at them, they were like, geez, lady, everybody texts! And I'm like, no they don't!!!

When we had Cingular/AT&T, we had them blocked by making a phone call. We switched to US Cellular about 2 years ago and love it. We've always had free incoming texts, call and pictures and recently upgraded to unlimited texting. With 2 DD in college, sometimes that's the only way that I can get a hold of them. :lmao:

You'd be amazed at how few minutes we actually use between the free incoming, cell to cell and texting.
