Can I bank and then borrow?

I am thinking of booking a trip for December. The points I would use would have to be banked by September if I were not to use them in December.
I am not convinced that things will be normal by December.

Can I bank those points now.
And if I decide to go in December borrow from 2021 for a December 2020 trip.
I have a February use year.

You can borrow the points from next year even if you've banked but only 50%. Normally MS has been pretty liberal about banking in this situation after the deadline has passed but there's no guarantee in this situation. You may wan to call them and see if they'll commit to that if you book now and decide to cancel later.

IMHO, December will definitely not be "normal"

If you bank your points by your September deadline any of the points you bank can only be used after your new UY starts in February. So, you can use them to book a new reservation that falls between February 1, 2021 and when they expire January 31, 2022.

You cannot however, borrow any of those banked points for a reservation in December of 2020. You can only borrow from your FEB 2021 UY. As a previous posted stated you would be restricted to borrowing 50% of your normal allotment.

Things will not be normal by December. You just have to consider what level of abnormal you are comfortable with. If you are international, I wouldn't expect open borders or a removal of quarantine orders on return home if you cross into the US.

For various reasons not all of which are the virus, I expect December to be super weird.

Just remember that if you borrow those points and for some reason you can not go you will loose those points at the end of Jan.

I'm also Feb use year and just canceled my Halloween trip.

I hope I'll get to use two years' worth of point at some point between 2/21 - 2/22.
