We will not be on DDP -going with convention and we don't qualify. so I am thinking what will be the best pay to pay; certainly don't want to take cash..

We perfer not to use credit card either- we try not to use them at all..

So what about a check card (Visa)..is that acceptable or is that too risky to use at such a big place..

Not being nosy, just need some advice as to what to do.
I thought about getting a pre-paid Visa card but then I thought, well, what if there would be a problem with the card???

Thanks so much for answering...

Are you staying on property? If you are, you can charge all your meals to your room key and pay the amount at the end with a credit card or cash (not sure about a check). I did this when I went once and it was very convenient.

Can I ask why you wouldn't just use a credit card for this situation instead of making a big production out of getting a prepaid card (which by the way always has an activation fee) or some other solution? If you don't have one, I can understand trying to find another option. But if you have a credit card, in this case it is the easiest and safest way to pay for your OOP meals. You can pay the entire balance as soon as the bill comes and avoid any interest charges.

Bank cards or debit cards are accepted but you'll want to notify your bank that you're traveling to Disney and make sure that your daily limit will be enough. Some banks only let you charge so much per day just like you can only take out so much cash at an atm and you may want to up your limit. You'll still sign for your purchases (you won't enter a pin in to that little machine) but it's very convenient!

That's what we do- it's great. But I do bring an extra credit card just in case (I never had to use it, but that one time I don't bring it- I'll need it). :)

We use cash or Disney gift cards. I like to keep track of what I'm spending as I go, so we don't charge to our room key.

We use our Disney Visa and pay it off when we get home and get Disney points with it.:thumbsup2

Tina- the reason we don't use credit cards is that we try to pay as we go..don't like having any outstanding balances-even if for 30days...guess that's the old school way..:)

but with cash you have to worry about losing it...

like the convience of a card, so was wondering how everyone else does it..

thanks!

We charge it to our room and the balance goes to my Disney Visa. However, you could pay off your room charge with cash every few days.

On our next visit, we'll be staying at Shades of Green, which is not a Disney resort, so we won't be able to use room charge. I plan to buy some Disney gift-cards ahead of time and use those.

We charge everything to our Key to the world also. But then use our Disney Visa to pay it off at the end of our trip and then it gets paid off we we get that statement.

You can have it both ways. :) Bring cash. When you check in, the CM will ask if you'd like to leave a credit card number for charges. Tell them you want to use cash instead. You deposit the cash with them, and you charge against that cash with the Key to the World card. When you check out, they'll give you back any remaining cash.

Your cash is safe, and you have the convenience of a credit card.

We are planning to get Disney Gift Cards, as well. We had an issue last year with our bank cards AND our credit cards last year being put on hold because we were out of the state and as a fraud protection, they put our accounts on hold. The other option is buy some of the Visa Gift Cards. They will charge you a $3 fee per card when you purchase them but they are accepted as Visa cards.

These are great. You can buy them in lots of denominations and the best part is, you can RELOAD them at WDW (any gift shop can do this for you). You can use your bank atm/debit or check card to reload them. That way, you are using a "card" but it's essentially cash.

You will STILL need some cash, though. A lot of the outdoor vending carts don't take ANY cards, and only take cash.

I agree about the gift cards. Also, if you are a bit anal like me and want different designs on your giftcards (other than the red/white/blue with Mickey), you can order them from the Disneyland portion of the Disney website and they have many designs and are good at WDW, DCL, Disneyshopping.com, DL and Disney stores. There's currently 9 different designs available. Here's the link to the DL issued giftcards: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/reserve/specialOffers/detail?name=GiftCardSpecialOfferPage

We pay by credit card, knowing when we get home, the entire bill is paid off in full.

Since we don't use a credit card regularly-- just for trips that we pay off as soon as we return home, we had this happen. Thing is, Capital One called my HOUSE. Ummm...good thing I checked my voice mail. They hadn't denied anything, but considering we were away for 14 days and at Disney for 10, I wonder what would've happened if I hadn't called home. I think it is a good idea to call CC company if you plan to do any major purchase if it doesn't fit the usual. Maybe it was the 2 rooms for a total of 14 nights and park tickets for 6 that threw it??

OP-- We don't usually charge either, but at WDW we do it for the convenience. I'd rather use the CC at WDW, go home and get online to pay it off. That way I know I have recourse for any questions with the bill and my cash is in my account at home until we return. Just makes us more comfortable. Even though we charge EVERYTHING to the room key, we don't splurge and always seem to come in at our budgeted expenses.
