Hi

So I had booked for January 2016 for myself and the kids at the SQL for 6 days during which my son has his birthday. I had also intended visiting in May that year for my 30th birthday but I've been doing some number crunching and cannot make my mind up over which path to choose. I am an extremely indecisive person and would love and value some insight and opinion from you guys.

Option 1: Go in January 2016 as planned staying at the SQL for 6 days and May 2016 for 5 days staying at one of the midrange hotels.
Spending money would have to be budgeted tightly but I would add premium half board for May so we can eat at Cali Grill, Inventions etc.
DD would also require an AP as mine runs out in April and I was basing May on single occupancy and adding the extra person on check in. I also budgeted for the additional cost of her meals.
The downsides in my mind are January would be tight as we would have to squeeze meals and spending from a small budget. January would be very cold so theres the risk of flight cancellation due to weather, more rides would be closed for low season and the extra outlay for warm boots and the extra layers we would have to bring. May's downside would be the risk of the park being very busy like this year was.

Option 2: Change January 2016s booking to March which is between both mine and James' birthday, staying at the DLH for 6 days and scrapping May's trip. It does cost a lot though (I could do both trips by the skin of my teeth for the price). But it would be quiet as Easter is late that month and we would go early March. It would also be less likely to be freezing and we wouldnt need to pack so much plus it would be a big treat.

What would you do? Are 2 trips better than 1?
My head feels like its going to explode with all the budgeting and thinking!

Thanks for reading - I hope it is all clear! Please help!

It's your 30th Kizzy go for the DLH :)
One blow out trip go for it girl :woohoo:

Seeing as it's your 30th...I'd go for the one trip to DLH and don't hold back. But that's me, I like to splash out on holidays rather than watching my pennies.
You could do castle club breakfast on one morning....

Ooooh girls I just don't know! I need to talk to DH and the kids. Could even stretch to 6 days for both trips versus 1 6 day budget buster. Aaargh decisions!

I say DLH too...there are no downsides to that option other than you only get one trip instead of two. But as it's the DLH I'm sure it will be worth it!

You loved the DLH when you stayed before Kizzy, I think you would enjoy that better. :goodvibes

March can still be very cold - we've had snow in March the last couple of years so you may still need thermals and boots.

I'd prefer one awesome trip to two regular ones.

But I'm a sucker for a nice hotel.

Is that a new thing? Being able to pay for a castle club breakfast? I've never known it to be available to upgrade to. It's only for folks staying in castle club.

It has to be the Disneyland Hotel for your 30th!

We made the decision to move one of our bookings the other day. We are going in December 2015, and we had a trip booked for Feb 2016. But after a discussion the other day with DW, we came to the decision to move our Feb 2016 booking to May 2016.

Mostly because it really was too soon to go back again in such a short time, and both trips would have to be budget ones. Also Feb is cold, and normally has quite a few rides closed for refurbishment.

I was also worried that the Newport Bay Club refurbishment might over run, I know it is due to be completed by the end of 2015, but it has been dragging on a bit and wanted to play it safe.

So our Feb 2016 trip has been moved to May 2016 (Compass Club, Newport Bay Club), and we are now going during DWs birthday. But what DW does not know is that I have upgraded our December 2015 trip from the Hotel Cheyenne to a Christmas Themed Room at the Disneyland Hotel.

Wow Jonjo! Love it.

I've spent two days thinking, pricing every option ( no mean feat may I add!) and consulting pages of notes.

Annnnnd I finally found a result I'm happy with. I feel so happy with my choice.
It's SQL as booked for January and HNY for 5 days in May. We loves HNY and actually rathered it to our last room at the DLH by far.
The only downside is 5 days instead of 6 but I'd rather a nice hotel which to me means a treat as opposed to a longer stay.

But an upgrade to the DLH is still on the cards :-)
I think DLH could be doable as I've quit smoking again (early days but lots of determination) and I have ages to come up with the small shortfall of €400. But if not we will be thrilled to be back at HNY. Thanks so much for all of your help! Everyone shed a different light on it all for me and helped me decide what was most important. :grouphug:

I posted before I thought there lol :)
Great plan and you made me rethink mine very happy now :)
Thanks Kizzy x

Glad you've decided Kizzy. You'll have two very special birthdays :)
We loved HNY on our last trip. Location was fab and we had a great room too.

I did some more messing about with numbers and we would actually save €150 by not going for the meal plan! DLH is looking even more of a runner :-) Although I think I'll let the kids pick and just book it and forget about all this to-ing and fro-ing. Indecisive to the bone. Thanks again everyone xx
