Can I add points directly with Disney after buying a resale?

Bought Polynesian through Disney a few years back and I'm thinking of adding on points directly with Disney to my existing Polynesian contract or buying another resort either through resale or direct with Disney. With the new rules implemented on the Grand Riviera (and possibly future resorts like 'Reflections'), resale is looking more appealing. Although I don't plan on selling, I anticipate that resale resorts like my Polynesian will retain their value better due to restrictions that future resorts are going to implement. With that said, if I purchased a resale property (let's say Aulani) and few years down the I want to add points (if available), can I do so through Disney directly on my resale resort? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but it's not necessarily clear to me through my brief research. Thanks!

When you buy from Disney to add on you aren't actually adding to an existing contract, you're buying a separate contract. They will sell you just about anything.
Well yeah, but it's the same use year for the same resort correct? I guess if I have a resale Aulani, can I buy a seperate contract (additional points)...are there any restrictions I guess?

Yes, they'll match UY so that you can use the points seamlessly and there will be rules about minimum amount of points they'll sell depending on which resort it is but you'll be able to buy whatever the minimum is for existing members. The resale points will maintain their resale status/restrictions and the direct points will no have any restrictions. There is nothing stopping you from buying wherever they have points available for though.

Alrighty, that helps me out. One more question, if you don't mind? Do you know if Disney has any contracts for some of the older properties available for purchase (pre-Aulani or Polynesian)? Thanks for feedback :)

Yes, though you may have to go on a waitlist depending on what it is you are wanting at the time.

Grand Californian is the only one that is pretty much impossible to get. Other than that they have decent availability to sell you points at another resort. The only time you may need to wait a bit would be if you were trying to buy a December use year right now. Technically any December contracts would be entitled to 2018 points, however, the pool of 2018 points left that Disney can give is dwindling so there’s a chance you’d have to wait until after Dec 1.

One more comment that hopefully is obvious:

Any older resorts sold direct by Disney still have the same ending date as resales. (A few posters have assumed over the years that buying BCV direct would mean getting 50 years of points - so I just wanted to clarify that is not the case.)

For a newer resort it's easy.

For an older resort there will likely be a waiting period. They may have inventory given the time of year and economy. But I think your usually waiting for a ROFR.
