we have a friend who plans to come and visit us at the fort - would they be allowed to stay 1-2 night in our tent - or is that against park rules?

If you list your friends as part of your party before you arrive and they have their names on your list when your friends arrive they will be allowed in...you will have a fee for over so many in your party...I'm not sure of the limit as I haven't gone with more than 3 but I did have a visitor and he was allowed to come in for a visit...they do expect your friends to come through security just like checking in...

Grandma came to visit us at FW and stayed one night. We told them when we checked in and fully expected to pay an extra fee for her that one night. She checked in, they asked if she was staying the night and she said "yes"...but there was no extra fee on our bill??

My aunt and ex wife came for Thanksgiving last year for one night and we didn't get charged either. I don;t think they really want the money, they just want to know who is on property.

The fee is $2.00 per person for more than two adults. If you register the names and pay the fee, they will get access cards with their names on them. The card is their transportation ID card and permits access to the comfort station during the night. You can also give them charge priveliges.

Same here. During our Thanksgiving trips to Ft. Wilderness my mother and sister always come and we never get charged extra...

Our last trip my BL and his wife stayed for 2 days and no extra charge....

So not sure where the extra 2.00 charge comes in :confused3 .

It comes from the disney web page:

Additional adult charges apply if more than 2 adults

The occupancy of a campsite is a maximum of ten persons, two of which can be adults at no additional charge. By the rules if you have three adults and seven kids then the additional adult charge applies. But, as you and others have noted they don't hold hard and fast to the rule.

Well, OFFICIALLY the charge is so that they can have their own access key card, an ID for transportation, and that Disney can track who and how many are in the campground.

UNOFFICIALLY, I won't tell if you won't :P During our Thanksgiving trips, we have so many people come and go during the week that we just don't even worry about it. I honestly think if you have a couple extra people, as long as you're not trying to fit 10 people into a hotel room or 15 onto a campsite, you shouldn't be charged to begin with. There really is no way of knowing, but unless people are going to Extra Magic Hours (which currently is the only REAL reason you need a room key card, unless you use it to purchase stuff with as well), I don't think we're alone in this.

And I can't remember the last time someone asked me for a resort ID card when using Disney transportation (maybe 1989 or something??? lol) :)

Or, you could just have them go past the main entrance to FW and enter the second entrance (no guard). They can just park there, it's free and no one will ever know! I go to UCF and when I stay there, friends will come visit me and I just tell them to park there and then I hop on the golf cart and go pick them up.

No one will ever know :)
:confused3

Once again, I feel like I am dealing with my kids about 10 years ago - "But nobody's gonna know"

The 2 buck a person fee is to help offset the additional cost of utilities by having additional guests using the comfort stations, for instance. Now before anybody says "but surely my two guests aren't going to cost Disney that much", just imagine if everyone (I know, highly unlikely, but used for purposes of illustration only) in those over 700 campsites invited 2 additional people. Then think about all of those extras using those "free" parking spots in the overflow lot. It comes down to Disney trying to maintain some control over their resort, the honesty of guests, and whether or not an extra 2 bucks is really going to break you.

I agree. BTW what kind of trailer is that? How much does it wiegh? We are looking for one we can pull with a Pathfinder AND has a bathroom. I know I'm dreaming. :lmao:

It is a 2001 Jayco Kiwi 21c. Wet weight is about 4800 lbs. Sleeps 8 (VERY cozy) or 4-6 comfortably. Ours has the bunk bed option. Full kitchen, full bath (but the shower is a bit tight).

True, if it bothers you morally enough that you want to pay the two bucks, I say go for it, it's a personal decision.

Personally, I think Disney makes up that two bucks in the 70 dollar ticket, 10 dollar hamburger, 4 dollar coke, and 20 dollar poncho that my "guest" purchases while at the park...lol ;)

Of course, this is Colson's opinion, and not necessarily the opinion expressed by the DIS or the moderators of the DIS Camping Board. ;) :rotfl:

I agree with Colson, perhaps they shouldn't charge..... dann that's an expensive poncho:rotfl2:

Don't forget that very cheap bag of ice at the bath houses...:rolleyes1

Hey now, I never said it was!!! :P And it seems quite a few people have the same opinion as well ;) I try not to ever say anything that is considered "breaking the rules", at least not out in the open, but this is a topic that comes up a lot while we're at Disney.

P.S. I really could care less about the prices at Disney, or any of this for that matter. As someone mentioned in another thread, it's nice sometimes to talk about stuff OTHER than the rules :headache:

That being said, my wife just called me up and asked me to see if there was anything available at Disney next weekend. Now that's a call I could take every single day....lol

When people are going to visit and spend the night it is not a Disney rule that is being imposed, it is Florida state law that dictates this action. Also if there is an emergengy and a family member must be contacted it only makes sense that it is helpful to know who they are staying with and what site they are in.

Yes, it is a Florida state law. I don't know about the law that makes them charge 2 bucks, I'm not saying there isn't one, I just don't know. I'm sure there is some kind of law for everything :)

True, if they happen to have their ID card on them and there is an emergency, it could be helpful, that makes sense.

Well there's always two sides to everything, so I guess the original poster got both for sure....lol :)

at FW the last wek in April. My brother booked a site for his RV and family to enjoy. He let them know my family of 4 would be staying for 2 nights and was told it would be about $20 for us. When we got there there was no mention of extra fees nor was there a charge on his bill. Since we didn't have "room keys" we just borrowed his to use the comfort stations.
