How you are paid should be outlined in the company's policy. I believe even if WV is a state which allows for mandated direct deposits, employees must be notified in advance. The West Virginia Labor Laws should be available online.

A lot of states are going to an ATM-like way of being paid. This allows for people without bank accounts to access funds.

Why would you not want direct deposit? Funds directly deposited electronically are available for withdrawal immediately, not so for checks deposited. Next day availability on those funds.

My payroll checks are available immediately. Guess it depends on your bank/credit union.

I have had direct deposit for 15 yrs now and love it. It is a choice where i work, a lot of people don't have it.

Can't you simply ask your employer to change your direct deposit? Surely, not everyone in the whole company has an account at the same bank. They may require you to use Direct Deposit but they can't tell you where you have to do your banking.

Mine did. But I worked for a bank. We did have our choice of branch. If you are on vacation you would be able to access your funds by going to any ATM if you are travelling.

I work for a large company based out of Louisville, KY. We are in MA. Our checks are overnighted to us on Tuesday to receive Wed to give out on Thursday. Well twice within a 6 month period, they did not arrive from Louisville on time, due to shipping delays. Once we received on Thursday and once on Friday. When they were received on Friday, we were told that the machine had jammed and a bunch of packages had fallen off...ours got jammed behind the machine...who knows. After this 99% of my facility has signed up for direct deposit, we are allowed up to 4 accounts to put the check into...
