There are several World Showcase restaurants that I would love to try, but in looking at the menus, some of them don't have many (or any) entrees that DD (age 14) would enjoy. If I am ordering a full meal, would they balk if DD ordered an appetizer and side dish, or appetizer and salad, or something like that for her meal, but not an entree?

I've done this plenty of times, sometimes I didn't like what was on the regular meal menu and other times I was just not hungry enough so I went with an appetizer, heck, sometimes I just got dessert when the rest of my family was eating their meal. Nothing was ever said and it did not interfer with our service from our waiter/waitress.

My DD (14) is a very picky eater. She does not usually eat whats on the adult menus. She will usually pick a meal on the kids menu. The restaurants put bigger portions on the plate for her.

as far as ordering from the kids menu, be warned not to count on that option, it's pretty much at the discretion of the restaurant I think. We will frequently split portions with our girls but have found in the last year or so that with the popularity of the Dining Plan they have reduced the portion sizes dramatically while keeping price the same or raising it.

They usually don't mind. I've gone into a restaurant at Disney many times and just ordered an appetizer or dessert.

I have never been refused a child's menu item for an adult. However, be aware that they will usually provide a larger portion and price it accordingly.

If mussels are listed as an appetizer, I get that for my meal. My mother-in-law will often order an appetizer quesdilla for her meal. Or just soup and salad. My brother-in-law is very picky so a salad is fine and then maybe a vegetable side dish for him.

You won't have any problems at all.

This would only be a problem if you were on the dining plan, I don't know if they would substitute an app for an entree. But if you are paying out of pocket for your meal your DD can order what ever she wants off the menu.
