Can Borrowed Pts be Used for DCL?

Ok...I'm planning a big trip w/my family this year and on top of booking my own 2BR at AKV, I booked a studio for 3 nights at AKV with borrowed points for my brother (from 2011, June UY).

My brother may or may not come Here's my question---I understand that if I cancel the studio for 3 nights, the borrowed points must stay w/in my UY and cannot be banked or borrowed.

However, can I use the borrowed points as reservation points to pay for my cruise (one that I was going to take anyway)?

I know that you can borrow points to pay for a cruise, but I don't know if the borrowed points (once a reservation is cancelled) and remains in your UY if they can specifically be used to pay for a cruise. I want to specifically use these points since I can't bank them.

You guys are such gurus, help me not waste my points! TIA!

Yes, once borrowed the points will remain in that Use Year if the reservation they were used for is canceled. You may use them for another DVC reservation or any of the non-DVC options including the cruise. If you would cancel a non-DVC option, the points could then only be used for another non-DVC option and could no longer be used for a stay at a DVC resort.
