We are planning a trip to WDW Jan 4-8, 2007 for the marathon. My DD8 princess: will be having her 9th b-day on Saturday, Jan 6th, and I want to plan some special things for her. We already have a b-fast ressie at CRT for 8:30a. She is absolutely crazy about the Little Mermaid and Ariel. I was wondering if I could bring a b-day present for DD (maybe the Little Mermaid DVD or some Ariel jewlery which would be small and easy to sneak into my pack), give it to a CM at Ariel's Grotto, ask the CM to had it to Ariel to give to my DD when she meets her. I think my DD would absolutely love it if I could pull this off. Maybe Ariel could even sign the DVD too after DD opens it. What do you all think? Is this possible?

I'm afraid not. It's against policy. In part due to the fact that other kids waiting to see a character may feel badly that they did not get a gift. You might get a CM or Ariel's handler to give it to her.

HTH

Why don't you have it waiting for her in the room when she gets back from the parks? You could say in the note something like, "I forgot to give this to you when you came to see me today!" ;)

Wow, when did this policy change? I remember quite distinctly Minnie Mouse giving me a 24" stuffed Minnie for my birthday at a character breakfast at the Poly when it was available. Grant you, this was quite a few years ago, but I found out later that my Grandmother gave it to them and Minnie is the one that presented it to me.

Hmmmm, I wonder if there is a way to get the "official" word on this policy.

What? As opposed to all those things they will be handing out this year as part of the Year of a Million Dreams? My daughter is more likely to feel badly not getting picked to be in a parade than she will seeing someone else get a DVD that she can get practically anywhere. :confused3

When we were at Chef Mickey's in 2004, I asked if I could have Mickey give DS a bday present. I was told no, it was against policy.

So, when we went to the buffet, I was "slower" than the rest of the family and I tucked the gift under his napkin w/a card from Mickey. When we got back to the table, Mickey happened to be right there and I said "Hey -- look -- Mickey left you a present!" He thanked Mickey for the bday gift ... Mickey was probably thinking "WTH!?"

We were at WDW for my niece's 4th birthday and she was crazy about Cinderella. The night before, my SIL left a Cinderella dress, and several princess toys in the room for her to "find" when she woke up. She totally thought the stuff was from Cinderella herself. Worked like a charm. Also, at the park that day we bought her a Cinderella Barbie doll and when we saw Cinderella that day, she autographed the box. My niece was over the moon...

Also, ask at the front desk....when I mentioned it was my DD birthday they had a card from Cinderella there with a little birthday cake. They might be able to do an Ariel card :)

The difference is that their employers are requiring CM's to hand out the gifts that come from the company/corporate. The cast members are hired to do what the company asks ... including distributing gifts that come directly from the company. I'm going to guess that any CM's handing out gifts from corporate are doing so at their employer's request and not a guest's request.

I would ask, you know I find at Disney when trying to do things, it is all very hit or miss, so you might just get lucky. I wouldn't let anyone discourage you from taking it along and maybe making your daughter's birthday extra special for her. :)
