if the State Police solicit funds over the phone?

I have gotten two phone calls now, I just tell them to call back when dh is home, but they never do.

I see you are also in PA. Yes they do especially this time of the year.

When I lived in New Mexico, there was a scam going on that involved someone calling saying they were raising funds for the local PD.

I scared the bejeebers out of the guy when I told him my then-husband was a local cop and that I wasn't aware of any fundraising going on but if he gave me the name of his organization SLOWLY and a phone number I'd be happy to have my husband call him. He hung up on me.

There is also a scam in SC. They are calling saying they are raising $ for the State Troopers.

Call the State Police and ask them if they are raising funds via phone.

The one call was the other day and I picked-up the phone in the kitchen because that's where I was at the moment, I told her to call back when dh was home and she kept insisting so I hung up, than went to the phone with caller id and it was unknown name unknown number. The second call was today and again I was in the kitchen (I am gonna have to carry the phone with caller id around with me) this time it was a man, told him to call back when dh was home and he said ok and hung up. This time it reads AMRCN ASN OF ST and gives a number.

If someone does call back tonight dh can deal with them and find out if they are for real or not, if not he can call the number back and find out.
I use to try and deal with the callers my self but so many (telemarketers) won't take not interested and keep badgering me.

Sometimes they do. Next time, take down his name and number, and the organizations number.

In Illinois there is an organization that does the same - and no they are not affilated with local PDs or the State Police - I can't imagine the the PA State Police do this. When I get these calls I just tell them that I work for the Illinois Attorney General Office and are you really supposed to be doing this? They usually just hang up on me mid-sentence. (I don't work for the AG's Office)

Big time in Pa---and they don't like "no" for an answer no matter what issues you may have!! it is very annoying. wish they could be on the do not call list
I have learned to just hang up....We did give money 1 year and then for years after that they kept wanting a larger donation.....

they do ?? what for ??

Most police organizations do not solicit by phone, at least they don't in New York. I get those calls all the time. Scam? I don't know, but every year I always tell them to send me some of their literature and I will then make up my mind. Guess what! I'm still waiting.....

WHY would the state police ask for money over the phone? I would NEVER give money to anyone who called me.....you are only supposed to give to legit organizations who *you* seek out. I used to say to whoever was calling for money, that I don't do anything over the phone. Now I just cut them off with, 'no, thank you, goddbye' click. I don't owe anyone anything other than that! Don't waste precious minutes of my life LOL!

to the best of my knowledge NO STATE AGENCY solicits over the phone in The Commonwealth of PA..

Ridley park Pa local police due for their annual xmas show...
I guess maybe we should say an agency representing the state police...
not the police themselves.

what would the STATE police be soliciting for, they are fully funded by the state..

Well my husband called our local State Police and was told no they do not solicit funds. He than asked who to he could complain to and was told to call the Better Business Bureau. :confused3

Also wanted to let you all know, I did not give any info over the phone, I do just tell them no and hang up, but it gets annoying when they keep trying.

What.... if they don't, then someone is committing a crime ,,and they sent you to the better business bureau....

WOW....

I'd call Troop headquarters in HBG and ask them if they solicit for anything,
if they don't then tell them about the local troops response,

if Troop HEadquarters doesn't want to pursue it, such as putting a trace on your phone to catch the crooks, then report it to the Attorney GEneral's office..

Ummm....NO...the police do not solicit over the phone! My husband is a police officer and a few years ago, I got a call from a PBA union so I felt bad not to talk to them, since after all my Dh is a cop! So, when I mentioned that he was a cop, they sort of ended the conversation. When I told DH...that is when I found out that the police don't solicit!

Yep, we get the call too!!! Told them to call back when DH is home, same as you!!!!! I'm from PA too!!!!
