Say..I'm thinking of taking my wife to Tampa/St. Pete for a 3 night escape from our children.

Does anyone know anything about the Don Cesar (a Loews) "Pink Castle" in St. Pete? I can get $135/night on expedia.

Any other great ideas?

Thanks!!

It's old, elegant, and still "The place to be" on St. Pete Beach. Have a great time!

Don't know about that hotel, but will say stay away from the Downtown Hilton in St. Pete. I wouldn't recommend that hotel to anyone!!

This doesn't really answer your question but for anyone else who is considering a few days at the beach I HIGHLY recommend the Holiday Inn Harbourside in Indian Rocks Beach. We just got back yesterday and my family of five all loved it there. We had a suite and it included a fully equiped kitchen. We didn't drive down to St. Pete, but did go up to Clearwater which I wasn't that impressed with. It seemed very congested with lots of high rises and TONS of traffic. Indian Rocks Beach was probably a ten minute drive down the beach from Clearwater and it was VERY laid back...with lots of little restaurants here and there. It was a great place for our family and although it's not a posh as the DOn Ceasar seems to be, it wouldn't be a bad place for a getaway from the kids weekend either!

The Don is a nice hotel right on the gulf. My friend's parents own a condo right across the inland waterway from the Don so when we look out the back porch we can see it.

It's in a nice area with easy access from the Pinellas bayway. It's $.50 each time you get on the bayway from the expressway but not too bad.

You can cruise down to Fort DeSoto in ten minutes or less and walk around, which is nice out there. You can head north and find pretty much anything you would need as well.

One thing for sure, you can't miss it since it is bright pink.

I have a picture with the susnet against it in my office at work.

Just got back from St Petes stayed at Tradewinds, Don Cesar looks very posh. Make sure you go down to Johns Pass and eat at the Fishermans Wharf restaurant. Also you can see the dolphins swimming in the bay there, it is very nice. Only about 10 to 15 minutes down the road between Treasure Island and Madeira Beach . Have a great time
