I don't know anything about making screensavers but I would like to learn. I would love to put together a screensaver of my kids' 4-H club members if I knew which software to purchase. Does anyone know of a good, easy-to-learn software to produce screensavers that I can save to cds and pass around?? Thanks!!

I use to use a program called FotoAngelo for making my screensavers. It is relatively easy to use. There are many different programs out there though depending on if you want to keep it simple or if you want all the bells and whistles. The bells and whistles would include the ability to add music, the use of transitions and the ability to synchronize the music to the slides.

The easiest way to get your photos into a screen saver is to simply put them into C:\\My Documents\My Pictures\ (depending on your version of MS Windows.)

Anyone else have any helpful ideas?

The program I use the most is Irfanview. It's a free ware picture viewing/editing program. Among other things you can do with it, you can create slide shows and save them as screen savers. Here's the link:

I think this program will only do screensavers for use on your own computer, but you can always sign up with/download webshots (http://www.webshots.com). They have a desktop utility that has a number of features, including:
- a handy little 4 month calendar
- The ability to have it control your desktop wallpaper, and change it on a regular basis anywhere from every week to every 15 minutes. You just either download their photos, or drag and drop your own into a collection.
- The ability to have it act as your screensaver, showing the pictures in your collection

You can also check out tucows - there's a number of software packages on there for making screensavers, some of which are freeware.

Thank you all. Has anyone ever tried making screensavers for use on different computers from freeware? Thanks again!

Yes, Irfanview will do that. You create your own custom slide show then save it as a screensaver. The program creates a scr (screensaver) file that can be used on pretty much any computer that uses screensavers. Oh yeah, Irfanview is a Tucows product.
