My soon to be 10 year old son has an" awesome random NERF gun but not one with like 5 ammo on it* written on his Christmas list this year. I know nothing about NERF guns and have tried to stay away from weapons of any type. We don't believe in guns.

But I am limiting him to five presents this year and this was one that made the list. If anyone could help a clueless mom out i would be soooooo very grateful:worship:

My son is also getting the Praxis with an extra clip for Chaunukah. Should be one of the hot gifts this year.

This is what my boys are getting this year.

They have a bunch of nerf guns already and pop guns and stuff. I think guns are okay, it teaches them how to handle them properly. No aiming for the face and being careful while holding. For a long time it was no shooting people but my DH started it.

I picked up two of these in September at Target on clearance for 22.00 each! One is for my dd11 and the other is for ds8! I'm also picking up a ton of ammo for them both. I do regret not picking up a third on for my dh as he would love to play with the kids in the back yard.

This gun is a favorite in my family! My step-brothers got it for my step-dad for Christmas last year, and he absolutely loves it- as do the rest of us! We often have family nerf gun fights, and it's one of the best guns we have.

If your son didn't specifically mention the new Vortex disc type guns, you might want to think about whether this is the right fit for him. My boys have no interest in the new Vortex guns. They only want the traditional dart type.

My boys basically have every model $20+ on their list. I don't think you can go wrong with almost any of them.

Killer deal on whoever got the Vulcan for $22. This is #1 on my DS6 list.

I do know that some of the bigger ones can also take a bunch of batteries. I think it is the Stampede (maybe) that takes 6 D batteries. Something to consider due to extra cost and extra weight on an already heavy gun.

My ds 8 is asking for the Vortex Nitron and the Vortex Proton for Christmas.
My ds 11 is asking for the Nerf Barricade, Nite Finder and the Tactical Vest.

We have a ton of Nerf guns and they are all played with. I'm not sure what he meant when he said "but not one with like 5 ammo on it".

My sons are also each getting the Vulcan (the one shown above). I also got it on clearance at Target (although I paid $31--there were only 3 left at our store when I found it at that price). It normally goes for $59 and it's still in the stores so I don't know why they were clearanced, but I was happy about it! :cool1:

thanks for the great info! I think we will stick with the Vortex- looks a little safer with a six year old daughter and two small dogs- who will most likely be the targets :scared1:

Plus he has a lazy eye and wears glasses and can't have anything happen to his good eye- his vision is only 20/40 in the lazy with correction. Thanks for the help!! Hopefully he will love it!!

My sister just bought my DS a vortex gun for his 8th birthday 10 days ago and I just thought I would post a warning, as ours is hidden on top of the fridge for now. Those little disk fly out fast and they HURT if you're used as a target. The darts don't really hurt, just annoy me when I'm hit with them, but these little disks hurt and left brusises on my thighs. So, since I was the target of preference, I had to take it away...So if you have little boys who use pets, parents or siblings as targets, be wary of the vortex disks, or run for cover when they aim at you.

the darts do not hurt at all. All the kids on my street have them. In the summer there were nerf wars up and down the street. It was awesome and so much fun! I need to get extra ones for the kids who just pop over when these wars break out and lots of extra ammo.. are the VULCAN ones heavy? I got my ds6 one that was HUGE and impossible to carry around last year for christmas... all the kids love it but its to heavy and long to really do anything with.

Oh, if my son actually shot them at a PERSON...let's just say it wouldn't be a problem twice.

My DS13 loves the Nerf Longstrike CS-6 (not the longshot). He just got a Nerf Deploy CS-6 for his birthday and he really likes that too.

He got the stampede for christmas last year, but doesn't use it that much. Some of his friends have the vulcan , but same thing, they don't use it that much. Both of those guns are really big to run aroung with.

My DS has said specifically he has no interest in the vortex at all. You may want to rethink that if your DS is asking for nerf. He probably wants the standard kind.

We started with the no shooting people rule, but that eventually went away as DS and his friends love to have nerf battles. Now the rule is no shooting mom or the dog!

Keep your eyes open for special value packs - lots of times at toys r us, sometimes walmart, where you get extras such as a clip, drum, bandolier, or darts included with the nerf gun for no extra charge.

DS has several Nerf guns *including the big one pictured above* he's said he has enough Nerfs *likes AirSoft guns* he did have the Vulcan out this weekend in the back yard, maybe I'll get him some more darts this C-mas....

my rules, you cannot shoot an unarmed person, no shooting in the face, no shooting pets.

We also have that one pictured, with an extra belt for the bullets. It is the bosy' favorite. I have shot them with it, it is quite delightful.

I agree the darts are the way to go and do not hurt at all. If you truly have an issue with him shooting other people you may want to rethink getting him one at all. That is really what nerf guns are all about and if other kids in the neighborhood have them, they are going to shoot each other....fact of life!

We have the no shooting in the face rule and just had to make a no shooting the dog rule for our 5 year old! Never had to say that before!!!

:lmao:

We have an assortment of small Nerf, some other "knock off" line, and ODS has this enormous Nerf gun that he bought last year - it was taller than he was LOL The big one gets no play, but it does break down into smaller guns so that's nice. Mine mostly use the cheapy $9 revolver type that MIL gave at Christmas one year. I was debating the disc style, but, if they hurt, maybe not.

I got 4 extra belts with the bullets for under $20, found them on clearance before i bought the guns. I need more clip bullets though for the rest of their guns. I wish they all just took the same bullets !
