Can anyone recommend a small monocolor laser printer?

I would like to find a reliable, inexpensive laser printer for DS#4 to take to school. If he needs color, he can send a file attachment to himself and print it in the library, but for black and white, I think that a laser printer will keep him from being "ink poor". Any suggestions for one that isn't to big or too pricey?

Works well, and works with Mac's running Leopard as well as PC's on XP and Vista. USB interface...

Got it for around $100 IIRC...

OK, it seems that it is going for 180 at Staples right now. I know that I did not pay that much. Keep an eye out for sales...

Have you priced out toner lately? Yes, it lasts longer but it costs twice as much if not more. You can buy a ink jet printer for $40 and it comes with a couple ink cartridges. If you need more ink you can buy a new printer for less money then the ink--silly but true. We go through a couple ink cartridges a year for black and a couple for color. Those total are less then a toner. We have 3 kids and do a LOT of printing.

Any HP laser printer. I have several at our office and they are workhorses, very reliable, don't breakdown and don't cost a lot for toner. My husband's has worked for 12 years without anything but changing toner. They have different sizes of toner now, get the largest one you can. Cost per page less than one cent.

Pack-in ink carts are not fully filled, most times less than half...

Are all of the laser printer "big", in that they take up more space?

My HP 1006 is no bigger than an ink jet. Mono laser printers are much cheaper per page than an inkjet.

Nowadays you can light duty laser printers for well under $100. The toners are expensive but most can be refilled at least once with decent results. I got a refill from ebay for about $10 (I think). It's still printing a year later.

Thanks but I just bought the Brother on line for $19 (after rebate) plus shipping. So for $30, I get a laser printer. Thanks Charade!!! I hope they have it in stock.
