I asked on the budged board and got no answers :confused3

So, hopefully someone here can help. Dh and I are looking to build in central Florida and are wondering if anyone can recommend a homebuilder to use, or one to avoid.

We won't be building our dream home, probably 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, pretty small.

Thanks!!

I live in Central FL on the west side. Look into KB and Morrison builders but I like Westfield. It really depends on your budget and square footage though. There are lots of communities going up around here. You might come out better buying an exisiting house instead of building. If you need more info just ask me.

Lennar/US Homes and Maronda are both pretty big production builders around here. Others to look into are Engle, Mercedes, and Greater Homes.

David Weekly, Lawson Estate Homes, and Beazer Homes are higher end builders that you can consider for down the road. :)

I've heard good things about Lennar & Morrison. My parents recently had a home built by Standard Pacific & have been happy with the quality and their willingness to repair items quickly.

Having said that, their last home was built by Ryland & had nothing but problems. If you do searches online for Ryland or KB Homes, you'd read things that would make your hair curl. Mold problems, shoddy construction, etc. I think Maronda is another one on the "avoid" list, if I remember correctly.

Definitely do your research! :)

http://www.hadd.com/ This site might help a little---every builder's going to get complaints. It's par for the course, but you might see a pattern with some of them & the types of complaints against the builders.

We just built an "Engle Home" in Vero Beach. It was completed in December. So far we are "very satisfied" with it and with Engle's customer service. It was 3 BR ,2 bath, 2 car garage. It is in a gated sub-division called Citrus Springs, with a community pool, clubhouse, tennis courts, etc.

Here is a link for Engle Homes below....

Toll Brothers (?) Homebuilders is another Florida one, along with Mercedes, Engle, Beazer (?), KBhomes, Ryland, Centex as well. Also, Cornerstone builds beautiful homes but they are mostly in Jax I think.

Our new house was built by Maronda, and we have been really pleased with it! Our house has four bedrooms and 2.5 baths, but they do have 3/2 floorplans.

I would suggest that you move to the area and rent so you can see the work of the builders in the area. In addition, you would be nearby so you can keep track of what's going on at your site.

Good luck! :sunny:
