Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in my price range?

No more than $125 a night (in mid/late July, gulp) and preferably less. We will be driving so will have our own car. It will be dh, myself and dd (11). Fairly close to the parks and a nice pool (slide if possible). We don't need fancy but clean, comfortable and in decent shape. I would like something attractive and relaxing but dh is all about the cheap so I may have to forgo that. A small fridge is a necessity as dd is a type 1 diabetic and we need to store insulin. We'll bring a cooler bag and ice packs for the trip there and back but I don't want to worry about ice packs and all that while there.

DD and I went a few years ago with family and stayed onsite (CBR) and loved it. But dh isn't willing to spend that this time and he's not a WDW fan so I think onsite would be too much for him. That and not enough cable channels to watch when we get back to the hoel at night would drive him nuts. This is so him at night. :happytv:

Thoughts?

That's actually a pretty healthy budget for Orlando these days, even in the peak of July. You might even snag a 2BR condo at a decent resort for that kind of money. Sheraton Vistana has 2BR units mid-July for $129 (pre-taxes); and that's from the Sheraton site - cheaper options exist!

I agree with PP that $125/night could easily get you a house, even in July. I'd suggest looking into it. If you want a hotel, we stayed at the Buena Vista Suites in August 2010 for $90/night with taxes. It had a two room suite with 2 queen size beds, 1 pull-out queen sofa, fridge, free buffet breakfast, park shuttles, pool, and exercise room.

Check the rates for the Hilton Bonnet Creek. It is really nice with a great pool area.

Thanks for the feedback. I found one that looks good for $109 and told dh and now he's all about keeping it really close to $100. It seems the villas and condos all go to about $140 with tax and now he's saying too high. We'll see. But at least it appears we'll have something pretty nice for what we can afford.

I've never used anything like PriceLine or HotWire. It looks as if you don't even know what hotel you are bidding on, is that correct? I don't know if I could handle that but from reading here it seems you can get some really good deals.

you can get some good deals.

but you can also get some awfully ones. a few years ago Disney tried it - put all stars sports - it was gone quickly. but those who did not get all stars sport - ended up with that place on Black Lake - it was a Holiday Inn (3 stars) but it became something with (1 Star).

so alot of them feel it was an unfair deal. It wanted to charge guests for trash, towels, soap, etc.

so you have to carefully with the bidding places - do your research and make sure the time you are going is one with the nicer places - remember these units go quickly.

We stayed at Royale Parc Suites on 192 in Dec. For that week it was well under $100 a night for a suite hotel (Kitchenette with small stove top, small dishwasher, microwave, fridge and coffeemaker.) They had a pretty pool and jacuzzi area, a free breakfast and a managers reception with wine and beer every night) I felt very safe there, it was clean and nice. I was very happy with our choice for the price. I'm not sure the price for your dates, that you will have to check.

You should be able to get a 2 bedroom at Wyndham Bonnet Creek for $100 a night or less if you have a bit of flexibility and keep an eye on ebay.

In december we stayed at a Baymont inn and suites on 192, we got it through Hotwire for under 40, it was very nice. fridge microwave, plasma TV and the room was spotless, the elevator was slow and old but the rooms looked recently redone. It is listed as being in the Celebration area. There is a pool looked nice but it was to cold to use it. We usually stay on property and only needed a place for a few nights before our Disney Cruise and this place was very nice for an off property place.
