Can anyone help with Cedar Point?

I managed to convince my DH to take a long weekend trip to Cedar Point in August (have wanted to go for years!), but I know absolutely NOTHING about it! From their website, I love the looks of the Sandcastle Suites, but they're not really clear on the location. Is Hotel Breakers the only one within walking distance of the park?? Any advice?? Please help a CP rookie!

We go every year and stay at Sandcastle Suites. They are definately in walking distance to the park(maybe 5 minutes from door to gate), but they also offer a shuttle right to the gate. They have a restaurant right next door that offers a good and reasonably priced buffet breakfast. For your admission tickets, wait to buy the two day ride and slide passes at the hotel. You get a discount for staying on-site. You'll also have early entry (one hour before regular gates open) to ride Millenium Force and Top Thrill Dragster as an on-site guest. The hotel is clean and decent, but nothing fancy. Let me know if you have any other questions! www.cedarpoint.com has tons of information.

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify - this is going to sound really dumb! Is the walk from Sandcastle Suites to the park clearly marked & safe? We're definitely walkers & would prefer to just leave the car where we park it for the duration of our stay, but don't want to be walking in busy roadways or anything!

I read about the discounted two-day tickets on their website - we can just buy those when we check in? (Do you have to get water park tixx, too? We weren't planning on doing that our first time out!)

Okay, last thing - have you been on Top Thrill Dragster yourself? It looks absolutely amazing (I'm no ride wimp, buy my knees are shaking already LOL!)

Cedar Point is on a peninsula with the Hotel Breakers, Sand Castle Suites, the marina and the campground. It is a "safe" walk to the park from all of these. The Radisson hotel, which I think is closed to be turned into a hotel and indoor water park, is not within walking distance.

Have a great time. My son, the roller coaster enthusiast, loves Cedar Point!

My husbands family lives one town over in Port Clinton so we visit Cedar Point each time we visit. Sorry I can't help with the hotel questions, we stay with his family. I am not a big roller coaster fan but we always have a great time. Hope you do too!!

We just came back from CP last weekend. There are a few hotels technicallhy on property. Hotel Breaker is within walking distance. Breakers Express is a very very short driving distance (like 2-3 minutes). Breakers Express is much cheaper than Hotel Breakers. Hotel Breakers is beautifully done in a very old style.., and Breakers Express is a well... less expensive version.
The park itself is wonderful.

You do get a perk if you stay "onsite". You get to go into the park 1/2 hour earlier than the regular day crowd. You may think, big deal 1/2 hour, but that 1/2 hour you can ride one ride, and get in line for anohter. When Top Thrill Dragster waits run about 2 hours, getting a ride in within a 1/2 hour is a great thing. Millenium Force also can be along wait, so in that 1/2 hour you can feasibly do two rides back to back, if you get there early enough, and don't want the front seat.

CP is great. My kids loved, it, my nephew loved it and we had a great time!

Dragster is a blast.. and honestly, its not that scary. By the time you get scared, the ride is over. Its really one fast big hill... and its done before you know it!

Millenium Force is a better ride, IMO. The other coasters are a blast... and its fun! My 6 year old loved all the coasters! There are a lot of old fashioned family rides as well.. we love the Cedar Downs! The train ride through Frontierland is funny as well! If you have kids, there are tons of kiddie areas within the park.

If you do stay at the Breakers Express, its a very quick, easy drive to Cedar Point. You basically go over a causeway, and you're there. Its very very easy!

Trust me! We drove it all the way from NJ and it was soooo worth it!

Definately a safe walk. There are two routes...one along a path beside the beach or one through the campground. Regarding the waterpark - we never do it, either, but the two day ride and slide pass is still cheaper then buying two one day passes to just the amusement park. Yep, you can buy them right at the front desk when you check in and add them to your room charge. You can even get them early in the morning on the day of arrival (prior to check in time). We always park the car at the hotel and don't touch it during our stay. You will have to pay for parking to get into the hotel lot, but they will refund it to you at check-in.

Regarding Top Thrill...I did it last May. It is very intimidating to stand and watch it before riding, but it is the ultimate thrill ride. Just don't blink, or you'll miss everything! Make sure and be there first thing in the morning with your early entry to avoid a two hour wait. Millenium Force is also awesome and not to be missed. I'm a 38 year old wimpy Mom and I could handle them...
so have a blast!

My six year old loved Millenium Force! SHe was tall enough for that, but not TTD! Yes, TTD is not scary at all! It sounds worse than what it is.

Cindy B, what part of Jersey are you from? How long did the drive take you? We were planning on leaving early on a Saturday morning & just taking the rest of that day to relax. Then, we'll enjoy the park on Sunday & Monday, and leave for home on Tuesday. Sound good???

Oooh, I can't wait! I haven't been to a big coaster park in ages! We gave up on Six Flags years ago!

I'm in Camden County, right near the Philly PA border. It was 511 miles from my house to Breakers Express door. It took us about 8.5 hours. We took the NJ turnpike to the PA turnpike, and then took the NE Extension of the PA turnpike. We then took I 80 until it ended. 80 ends in the Ohio Turnpike. From the Ohio Turnpike it takes you about 1.5 hours to get to Cedar Point.

I think you are thinking that CP will be like Six Flags GA. Sandusky is a fairly sleepy quaint town, that well, isn't terrible. I can't think of a bad area of Sandusky especially if you stay near the hotels... The Sandusky Mall area is busier than say the resorts area.

Warning you will get off the Ohio turnpike, you will be out in the country area for a WHILE until you actually hit the Cedar Point property.. don't worry.. you are in the right area. You have to travel a bit until you actually get to the *****nsulla .

I used to live in Ohio, and its pretty area. Warning the lake is colder than usual, so be sure to bring warm clothes even in August. Last year, it was 45 degrees over Mem. Day weekend.. This year is was about 55-65 degrees.

You are right on Lake Erie . Lake Erie is huge.. you wont see an end to it. It looks like the ocean!

The park itself is huge, and its hard to get done in one day. The coasters are great. Of course there is TTD, and MF , but other still pack a punch. Raptor is great, and Mantis is well, not built for grown men of certain height. Disaster Transport is a fun,cheesy in the dark coaster. WIldcat is a fantastic ride, and Iron dragon can be fun as well. Magnum is great as well. Mean Streak is a great wooden coaster...

I don't think you were aware of this, but Dorney Park is owned by Cedar Faire as well. You could get season passes at Dorney, and then you can use those passes at Cedar Point with no problems.

You wont see gangs like you would at Six Flags. The Midwest is so different. (Its hard to explain!)
