In order to get a copy of my marriage certificate(original) to proceed with my divorce I have to get a money order or certified check for $5 to send to the courthouse in osceola county. Now would I be able to get this done in the uk or is it best for me to get it done in the US? Obviously I dont have a US bank account so would I be able to walk into somewhere and get one of the above? If so where? Was thinking as we go in just over 3 weeks it might be better to do it there but if it is a long drawn out process may as well do it here.Would I need to go to a post office here or my bank?
Sorry just dont know where to start. No option to order online.

A lot of convenience stores in the U.S. have them as well as the post office. I usually get mine at the post office. Good luck.

My question is: how will you get the original marriage certificate sent once you pay for it? I doubt they will send it to your home in the UK. If you can pay for it at the courthouse and receive it in person then I would just wait and get the money order once you get here to the US. It's easier and cheaper. If they will only send to a US address (which you will have for your upcoming holiday) then you will want to find someplace in the UK that will sell you a money order and send it now so your certificate will be waiting for you at your hotel.

According to this: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/scotland/moneyorder.html US money orders are available at most banks and American Express offices. I know that's for the consulate in Scotland but I assume it's the same for England.

Sorry you are in this situation :(. Good luck getting things squared away.

Do you have an American Express office near to where you are? I have done a money order from there and, going back some years now, I got one at the Post Office.

Hi Thanks for the info.I did write to the court and they wrote back and said I could post when I get there(or go down whichever was more convenient) and because they couldnt guarentee delivery whist I was in the US as it can take up to 3 weeks they said they would post to my UK address either way.
Anyway I am going to ask at my bank tomorrow and I will also ask at the post office.Just worried that the UK will slap about £10 on for the privilidge:scared1:

Your bank will sell you an International Money Order but expect to pay £10-12 for it.

The PO doesn't do them anymore.

In that case I would just wait until you get here to the US to buy the money order and deliver the paperwork to the county courthouse. It'll only cost you $1.10 USD to get a money order from the US Post Office.

That sounds good. At the current exchange rate that saves you about $15+

Thankyou all so much. Will ask where the nearest post office is when I get to RPR.
Tiggs is that what they charge? They can shove it.:rotfl:

Apparently so.

Looks like not much has changed ;)Although I did need a money order for about $100. You can justify $10 on that - but not on $5! :scared1:I may be mistaken as I don't recall too clearly, but I think it was a percentage of the value of the money order :confused3 Anyway, at least you know your options now. :) Robinb was great with her advice. I love it when we get visitors on here. I was too slow, I didn't even get the coffee on!

Here's a link to the information about USPS money orders:

I love to read on your board ... although sometimes I need to puzzle out some of the colloquialisms ;).

Aaah, we're a strange breed :lmao: Sorry it's a bit late for that coffee - past midnight and up at 6 am for work. It was great to get some local advice. Please visit us again - otherwise see you on the restaurants board. :goodvibes
