can anyone give me an overview of epcot's flower and garden festival?

I’ve never been to epcot during that time before so I’m not sure about all that there is to see and do.

I’ll be solo and I plan on being leisurely in the afternoon after I’m done with the rides/attractions in future world.

Is it just looking at beautiful topiaries and listening to people talk about plants or is there more to do than meets the eye?

Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy looking at flowers/plants (my family loved going to cypress gardens every year and usually it was during the flower festival) but I don’t think it would take long to just walk around looking at that.

Last year they started having a few food booths (sort of a mini F&W thing) so that may interest you. Also, closer to the festival, you will be able to see if there are any seminars or events the day you are planning to be in Epcot.

Other than that, it's just a nice time to be there because of all the extra landscaping. It really makes for some nice Epcot photos. I usually don't attend any of the special seminars, but just do my normal Epcot things and take a few extra pictures than I usually do.

We attended last year and enjoyed very much. We did the Gardens of the World tour that they offer during the festival. Here's the description.


This is your chance to tour and learn about the World Showcase’s gardens with one of Disney’s horticulture experts. You’ll hear how the gardens are designed and how each plant is incorporated into the pavilion’s landscape. You might even learn some tips for how to use some of these techniques in your own yard! This tour is only offered on select days during Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival

It was from 9-12 and very interesting.

I'm sure Dan's links will be very helpful, but as a personal note, this is our favorite time to visit. The themed gardens are really something to spend a bit of extra time on. If you are a gardener, there are multiple seminars every day. We very much enjoyed the behind the scenes garden tour. The food booths were new on our last visit, and never seemed as crowded as they are for F&W. There is also a concert series.

To us, since they added the extra food stands it is kind of like a scaled down Food and Wine Festival with out the crazy crowds, with the benefit of beautiful flowers. My favorite time to visit Epcot.

It's my favorite time to visit Epcot. I usually go and get the free passport in Festival Center first thing so when I'm ready to start touring World Showcase I have it already.

I have taken the free tours offered in United Kingdom (the tea garden area) and in France. Those were very nice. There are garden seminars you can sign up for.

Instead of lunch reservations, I ate at the booths and walked around enjoying the flowers and topiaries in World Showcase.

I'm currently planning a trip for the Flower and Garden Festival in 2015. The Gardens of the World tour sounds intriguing. I may look into that.

When do they typically come.out with the guides and info? Went last year for the first time and loved it! Definite mini f&wf...so much less crazy!

We are going to be in Epcot on 2/28/15 and 3/2/15. The official start to the F&G festival is 3/4/15, so we are going to be early. I would guess that much of the topiaries and those types of decorations will probably be in place on 3/2 - do you think? It doesn't seem like they put everything up somehow in the dark of night on March 3rd?!?!

We were there in 2013 a couple of days before everything opened for the Flower & Garden show. They had almost all of the topiaries out and I do believe the food booths or outdoor kitchens as they call them were open as well.

We're thinking about going the final weekend of F&G to overlap with Star Wars Weekend. Since we're talking about Disney here, is it safe to assume all the displays are just as nice on the final weekend as they are when the festival first opens?

As nice, yes, but sometimes different.

The topiaries that don't have actual blooms stay the same. But the weather is significantly different the beginning of March compared to the middle of May. The beginning of March could have very cold nights, even the occasional close to freezing temperatures, whereas the middle of May it's starting to feel like summer, with warm nights and hot days. I have been at the very beginning and the very end of the festival, and although both visits had beautiful displays, it was obvious that they had to change out the plants in some of the displays.

Also, some of the regular trees bloom in the spring, which makes it look extra festive. Most of those blooms are long gone by the end of the festival.
