Can anyone else not break away from their home resort?

We own at OKW (and VGC) but I find it so hard, if not impossible, to stay anywhere other than my beloved OKW! We did stay last year for a week at OKW then a week at BCV. I loved BCV but still prefer OKW. Now we are planning our trip for next year before our Disney Cruise again, and my Mom would love to try AKV but DH and I are SO set on OKW! I try to convince myself it would be fun to try a different resort, fun to have a different location, blah blah...but it all comes back to OKW. I know if I don't stay there I will drive by and see it and my heart will ache! I know this because it has happened when we stay at Marriott Vacation Clubs every few years. Anyone else like this???

Don't forget you've got 30+ more years of DVC experience ahead!
It's a good idea to try other things/places....one of two things will happen;
you'll either discover somewhere else you enjoy, or, you'll be all the more certain of your now first love.

I feel for you. My heart belongs to OKW too. We bought in 97 at OKW and have added at numerous resorts. But I still feel so at home, so relaxed, and so part of that magic when I stay at OKW. But I have to let go now and then. DH really loves BCV. So I have to give in there from time to time. This year we had OKW reserved for May and DH asked if we could stay at AKV instead. I was about to say no when I realized that he had bought me 400 points at AKV and we had never stayed there. So I gave in. We will be at Kidani for 8 nights in May. I am really starting to get excited now. It is fun learning about a new resort and I am beginning to learn that all the DVC resorts are great.

We bought at OKW in "98 - have stayed at othr resorts, but always return to OKW!!

Last year we stayed at OKW and loved it! We went to the Yacht Club on our last night and were upgraded to the Presidential Suite--fantastic for sure, but I think back most happily on our stay at OKW. I have to say there is some pull that OKW has that I cannot put my finger on. This year, I am trying to decide between going back or trying something new. I am just not sure I will like any as much. I think it is a perfect fit for my family.

We own at several different resorts, and I have to say my heart belongs to each and everyone of them.
Just depends on what we're in the mood for... MK or EPCOT.
But looking at what we own and what we don't own, we definitely prefer to stay at our HRs. No questions about that. We've ventured out to stay at non HRs but in the end we always want to go back to our own.

We like to do split stays... a home resort and a non-home resort. We get the best of both worlds! We do find they we enjoy the staye wherever we are.

I love OKW!!! I stayed at the Yacht Club, club level, and still love OKW the best. It's a home not a hotel and the theme is the real Florida!!!

I married a Home Resort Purist. HRP for short. He only wants to stay at AKV (which is OK with me, but I am a TOR-try other resorts--sorta gal). I have mentioned staying elsewhere, he just spins around and walks off. :confused3

We own at BWV and OKW and have tried most other resorts but always seem to go back to BWV. DH uses a scooter and won't go on the buses because of dirty looks from some folks who have to wait while a scooter is loaded. So BWV allows him to scoot to 2 parks and we rent a van so we can drive to AKV. Life is just simpler for him at BWV. I do love the 1+ bedrooms at OKW.

"Variety is the spice of life."

I was going to say this was our families motto - but thought better of it. :rolleyes1

We want to try them all.

:rotfl:

I loved this post! Thank you for making me laugh. :lmao:

Another HRP here, only our home resort is BWV. Since buying in 2005, every stay has been at BWV, except for 2 nights at AKV club level so we could take the Sunrise Safari. The only resort we now regularly cheat with is GCV! -- Suzanne

AKV and VWL are my home resorts, but I love trying different resorts, even before buying DVC I wanted to stay at all the resorts.
Most of my stays have been at AKV (my contract at VWL is only for 50 pts) but I was happy to stay at BCV because I love walking to DHS and Epcot. At some point I'd like to try BLT and BWV.
I have to admit though I do love the AKV, I have the most relaxing vacations there. I think it has to do with just sitting on my balcony and watching the animals.

My family are HRPs too! We  AKV! We love watching the animals from our balcony, the pools, the atmosphere, the arcade, the drums in the Jambo lobby, etc. We don't understand the complaints that it's too dark or too far away from the parks! We always return there to stay! Maybe in another 30 years we might want to change and try another resort but not yet!

For me it's the opposite, I own at BLT but have never stayed there.

Member since Oct. 2009, but first stay in May 2010 at Jambo House, then Oct. 2010 Villas at Wilderness Lodge and last Jan. a split stay at Kidani and Vero Beach. Upcoming stay in Oct. in OKW. After that, maybe I try BCV or BWV. Not in a hurry to do BLT. :-)

I know what you mean. One year DW and I went down with no points and just stayed at ASMo, which was fine, we're not picky that way. However... we did have to walk by our Beach Club.

When AKV opened ( Phase 1, before Kidani Village opened ), we wanted to check it out... but COULD NOT bring ourselves to make it our whole stay. We stayed there two days ( and it IS gorgeous ) and then transferred back to BCV for the rest of the stay. For us, it's not JUST that the resort feels like home ( which it DOES ), but just the closeness to Epcot and the boardwalk fits just right for our group.

The only time it didn't matter was this year when we stayed at GCV... I guess being thousands of miles away from WDW means it's okay to use a different resort ;)
