Can anyone educate me on officer ranks and officers' uniforms?

Do we have any experts here who know about officer ranks on a DCL ship and how to identify rank based on uniforms? I'm a nerd and love learning how things work behind the scenes.

The only one I actually know is the cruise director, and that had 4 stripes and the theater masks.
I got a good look at it because Jimmy was sitting at the table behind us at 1923 the last night.

This is similar to Disney with the number of stripes. But, I do not think Disney does the different colors for the different departments. They have different emblems - I have seen ships' wheels, props, anchors. The entertainment officers have the theatre masks. The officers on the hotel side just have stripes.
I like the insignia on the shoulder boards better than the colors. Some are similar to Navy ratings, but we sure don't have an entertainment insignia! I am biased, though, because I was in the Navy for 20 years. The uniforms are the same. Bless them in the choker whites and even the summer whites. They are not easy to keep clean, more so on a Naval vessel, but still...

20 years? Thank you for your service. Is it odd to sail for pleasure after doing it for work for so long?

One of the perks that officers get is that someone else keeps their whites clean for them. So, here's to the laundry folks!

Thank you. I retired in 2012 and had ZERO desire to cruise. I live in San Diego, and the Wonder released some new dates for 2015. My youngest at the time was 13 when the booking window opened (two older ones were in college). He begged me to try a short one, and I agreed to a three-night HOTHS so he wouldn't miss too much school with the Fri-Mon sailing.

I was barely on board and fell in love. I love, love, love being on the water and at sea. I had forgotten how much being at sea made me relaxed and happy despite all of the things that come with being in the Navy. No regrets, but it is a challenging career in many ways. I just finished a Pixar Day at Sea Disney (cruise 17), (Plus 1 Carnival & 1 NCL) and have 4 more DCL on the books and 3 on Virgin Voyages. I am hooked!

I am so happy for you and family. Thank you for your service!

I spent 20 years working in various areas of the freight railroad industry between 1980~2000, and we took a 14-day / 7 overnight trains Amtrack vacation last year. It was strangely similar, yet very different.

That is so cool. I would love to do that, too.
Sorry -Off Topic but had to respond.

This made me laugh! Been there, done that, as the saying goes. I retired after 29 years Navy and Marines (long story) and absolutely no desire to go on a cruise. DW kept bugging me to go on a cruise, so did our first in 2011. Took me a good 3 days to get used to the idea that I didn't have to stand watch or perform other duties. After that we have gone on over 20 cruises (with several more booked for 2023 and 2024).

About half-way though this first cruise we encountered an unseasonable storm, making for a rough time for most of the passengers. Early next morning I was heading across the pool deck for a massage at the spa, I watched as 3-4 foot waves rolled out of the pools. The captain was coming the other direction and urged me to go inside as we were in a bad storm. I remarked I'd been in much worse storms while in the Navy, so he said I could continue on deck but not to let anyone see me!
