Can anyone confirm this rumor?

Friends of ours joined DVC (not sure when) but did so on-site. When they joined, the guide reduced their contract price by the amount of money they spent on their trip! Does this happen often? Does anyone else have an experience like this to share? Thanks!

They have not done this for many years as mentioned above. It was a promotion back when I was first looking at DVC around 1994 to 1995.

If I recall correctly on that promotion, the buyer didn't receive some/all of their first year's points.

I can confirm that it is a rumor. Sorry just trying to be clever! As others have said this isn't a current incentive.

Friends who are considering resale took the tour at Disney the week after Christmas and weren't offered this.

The promotion was called "Magical Beginnings" and existed in several forms when it was offered as an incentive for a few years starting back in the late 90's.

Originally it was offered to guests staying onsite where a portion of the reservation costs of their current stay were applied to a DVC purchase - in exchange for giving up some of their first year's points. It was later expanded into a flat $10 per point credit applied towards the deposit - again taking some of the first year's point allocation.

It has not been offered in about 10 years but was used as one of the many different incentives used by DVC over the years. The very first DVC sales incentive was the free park pass promotion that was offered for early purchasers at OKW and also VB but ended before HH began sales. The free passes themselves were good for stays at OKW thru the end of 1999 where guests received 2 LOS passes for Studios and 1BR stays, 4 passes when staying in a 2BR and 6 passes when staying in a GV.

Other incentives over the years have included free APs, free cruises, Developer Points and several others.

Enjoy! :)

The offer explained by Webmaster Doc was offered to us in 2001. We took advantage of it. We purchased in October of 2001, and in return for giving us a discount based on our hotel stay (we were at the Beach Club) we had to give up 2001 points. Since we have a June UY, we wouldn't get any points until June 2002. It was a no-brainer to us because we only go once a year anyway, and didn't plan on going until the following October anyway.

At any rate, this may be an offer they trot out from time-to-time because as I said, we had it a little more than 8 years ago.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about but we just bought at BLT and were give all of the points from 2009. We had to bank them right away but we will now have twice as many points to start with.

We bought in 1998. We applied the money we had spent on that vacation's hotel already to our buy in and they took all of that years points. We didn't care, because we had already vacationed that year. As people pointed out it was the late 90s.
