Can an adult order off the childrens menu while on the DDP?

I am leaving for WDW in 4 days and I've been having horrible gallbladder attacks. I'm going to have it removed a few weeks after I return home, but in the mean time I need to eat very carefully and very small portions. I have been eating very bland food to try to avoid having any more attacks. I'm NOT going to cancel our WDW trip over this so I'm just going to have to deal with it. I don't want to make everyone we're traveling with change dining plans, so it's easier if I can just order off the childrens menu, something like spaghetti w/o marinara sauce. Will they let me do this?

Sure can! I am a picky eater so I often order off the children's menu, even when I'm on the DDP, and never have any issues. Some restaurants might even offer you a larger portion size.

I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Hope you still enjoy your trip!

You can, but it's jut like flushing money down the toilet. Why not just cancel the DDP and pay OOP for food. You'll save money.

I would probably not order off the kids menu as most places don't have a wide variety and the things on there - chicken fingers, burgers, etc probably wouldn't be good for your stomach. I would try to order off the regular menu, especially if you have the dining plan and if you can't change it and talk to the waiter/chef &/or just have them make you the items plain - like plain fish or chicken broiled with no butter or a plain pasta or something. I don't know about gallblader attachs but something like tomatoe sauce might not be good as it acidicy, I know this was just an example but I would just get off the main menu and get it plain and then eat what you want or leave the rest.

I agree with MrsLS. As a gall bladder attack sufferer myself, I feel that most of the items on the children's menus would not help avoid an attack because they are generally pretty high in fat. You'd be far better off ordering adult meals plain (prepared without fatty sauces or butter), getting vegetables steamed without butter, etc. With gall bladder attacks, it is all about limiting the amount of fat in your diet.

Thanks for the responses. I meant to put spaghetti without sauce on my post (I will edit my OP)-- and I would only order off the childrens menu if we are dining places that only have really heavy things on the adult menu. I don't have any children so I didn't realize that the childrens menus were mostly burgers/fries (I was hoping there would be some kind of healthy option?) I can't cancel the DDP because they said everyone in the room has to be on it, so I wouldn't be able to just cancel it for me. Also, we are traveling with my aunt/cousin and they are also on the DDP, and reservations have been in place for months so, I'll just have to wing it. But a big thank you to those who replied. I'll figure something out-- I don't care if I have to survive on saltine crackers while I'm there...as long as I'm at Disney!

Just to add to one of the points mentioned above-some of the TS restaurants do offer a Junior sized portion of kid's meals. We did this last year at Kona and 50's PTC. DD10 turned 10 during our trip so I had her as an adult for credits but sometimes she wanted one of the kid's meals. They basically can supersize some of the kid's meals to give you more. Of course, since you'll be wanting smaller servings than that may not matter to you.

Back in Jan. 06 my family went without the DDP. We ate at HBD one day for lunch and due to the heat and my DSis' not liking anything too different, 3 of us adults ordered off the kid's menu. We all got the chicken. It was basically a small chicken breast, with no sauce, delicious, but a little bland. I see now that they offer one with BBQ sauce.(you could get sauceless I'm sure) Our server told us we could double or triple our kid's chicken if we wanted. I don't think it's that unusual that guests order from the kid's menu.

As far as many of the kid's meals being high in fat, this can be true at some. for example at Kona the kid's choices are: hot dog, hamburger, mac 'n cheese or ravioli. If I was trying to eat with less fat, smaller portions, etc. I would probably not order from the kid's menu there but order the Tuna Oscar instead which is basically rare, seared tuna, no sauce.

Oh, and one time when we were at Kona my sister mentioned to the server that she couldn't eat any crab and wanted to make sure whatever she was ordering (I can't remember what) had no crab. The chef made a visit to our table to discuss her dining choices. (This totally embarrassed her, BTW). I believe you can do this at most TS. Ask if you can order a meal special, or see if you can speak with the Chef.

I would think most things off the kids menu would set off a gall bladder attack, though you can if you want. I would just choose something appropriate off the adult menu and just watch your portion size.
