hey all. I couldn't find this answer in a search...say you have a confirmed reservation for dec 1 to dec 10 at boardwalk. can the stay be split up via modify reservation to give dec 1 to 6 to someone else at beach club and keep dec 7 to 10 in my name at boardwalk? I can only see this issue coming into play with Christmas and new years where someone wants the Christmas part and we want to keep the new year.

of course, that's assuming availability is still there.

thanks for any help all!

I'm assuming this is a points reservation?
You would first have to modify your existing reservation to the shorter time period (unless you have enough points to make the "extra" reservation without cancelling the first one). Then make a second reservation in the other person's name.

You cannot "break up" your existing reservation - at least not online

AFAIK, MS doesn't allow it either.

The only way to do it safely (so as not to lose anything) is to book the smaller reservation, and then modify the original to the dates for the longer portion. Of course that assumes availability and that you have enough uncommitted points.

One continuous reservation cannot be divided into two separate reservations . That is true whether trying to do it online or calling MS. To make the reservation into two using points in the intial reservation, you must first modify your reservation to eliminate the days you want to put in the second reservation and then make the second reservation.

To do that can often be impossible because that new reservation is subject to availability at the time the change is made, and, e.g., getting BCV now for early Dec is likely impossible. Moreover, even if you see availability for the other resort before starting the process of making the change, someone else could fill the room you want during the short period of time you are modifying your lead reservation to drop nights, and you could end up losing all those days you take out of your main reservation and won’t be able to get them back.

If you ever intend to attempt to change part of a reservation to a different resort at 7 months out, the best nove is to make two separate home resort reservations at 11 months out, one for the time you want to keep at the home resort and one you will try to switch at 7 months out. That avoids losing the reservation — at 7 months out you will be able to make the change or, if not available, keep what you already have and have MS combine the two reservations.

We found this out by trying to do it, which you can’t. Now when I book 11 months out and think I may want to switch or cruise in between, we now book several smaller segments and later have ms combine them if not needed to split. We had a week reservation and wanted to do a 4 night cruise in between. So wanted the before and after, but couldn’t do it without losing one end.
