Can a Child's AP be used for Resort Discount?

twocat, I called CRO three times and two of the times I was told not anymore and that the AP has to be in the name of the person who the reservation is booked under.

I posted the same question on this board and a disser that I really trust confirmed the information above to be true.

I was able to in October. DD still had her AP and we were getting ours in WDW. I just had to put DD's name on the reservation which is what I have to do anyway.

When grandson was younger (6 years ago) his mom booked an AP discounted rate because her son, the AP holder was in the room. However, that was a long time ago (6 years ago) and he had an AP because he traveled with us often, as we are long time AP holders (he now holds an adult AP -- 12 years old, but his mom has an AP now too, so it was just that one time). I have booked rooms many times (with our APs--adults) and have always been told that the AP holder only has to be on the reservation, not the person making the reservation. This is was true for us even last spring as my friend was arriving while we were already there at Pop. She had to put my name on her reservation--as the AP holder, but the reservation was in her name and she paid for it. The website now says that an Adult AP is required for getting a room discount (not sure of the exact wording). Keep in mind that with an adult AP you can also purchase the discounted dining card (DDE). This can't be done with a child's AP.

I just read something recently at Disney about this and the answer was no. I think it was the passholder sleeve. I've thrown ours away, so I'm not positive that was the source

I am sure it is an error on the CMs part if they allow an AP room discount to be booked from a child's AP.

The reason being is a credit card is needed to secure the room/deposit, and it should be under the name of ther person booking. Very few kids are going to have their own credit or debit card. WDW no longer accepts checks anywhere on property.

I was told when booking that the person with the AP didn't have to be the one with the CC. I only had to add DD's name to the reservation. Really it does't matter anyway. I've booked over 15 trips using an AP rate and have NEVER been asked for my AP at check in! That isn't luck. It is sheer laziness on the part of the CMs. They even ask me if we need park tickets at check in and then I tell them that I have an AP and that is why I have the rate. Oh, says the CMs. They don't care.
