Can 18-year olds check into a hotel?

I would get him an authorized user card on your credit card account. I would never let him drive 5 hours without a credit card to use in case of emergency, regardless.

My dd and some friends went to Orlando on Spring Break, their hotel room was pre-paid and my dd used a debit card for incidentals. She does not have a credit card, and since she works 1 to 2 days a week I wasn't going to suggest she get one to build credit. We gave her emergency cash to put in her account if she needed it.
