We are not on the dining plan. My 10 year old is a picky eater and many of the places we have reservations for, there is nothing on the adult menu that he would eat just something on childrens menu. Will they let us get him a meal off the kids menu?

Yes they should accomodate him. My son is strictly chicken nuggets or hot dogs, they always let him order those "children's menu" items. He's going on 18 now. He just started eating hamburgers this year, so now we have 1 more option!!

As the pp said, yes, they will let him order off the kids menu :). Our oldest DS (now 18) is very picky and for a few years has been ordering items off of the kids menu as the adult menu never appealed to him. Since we always got the DDP, they allowed him to order an entree off the kids menu, but would bring him an adult sized portion. Disney is very accommodating so you shouldn't have any trouble ;).

Yes, more than likely. That being said, I recall our daughter wanting to be a big girl at age 10 and refused to order off of the kids menu, even though they would have let her. I nearly pulled out my hair, because she ate and still eats like a bird, if she eats at all.

I'm almost 18 and when we went last month I ordered off the kids meal several times! It shouldn't be a problem at all.

Besides, if you're not on the dining plan, how will the server know he's 10 and not 9 3/4? Shouldn't be an issue.

Usually, yes.

Occasionally, we've all heard stories about servers refusing to allow an older child to order off the kids menu (even when not on the DP). It's possible you could run into one of those....but by and large, MOST servers seem to be OK with it.

I don't know why the few that DO raise a stink have an issue with it. It seems counterproductive, because, while YES their tip is going to be based on a smaller amount....somehow I don't think telling the customer their 10 year old can't order off the kids menu is going to lead to a generous gratuity.

But I guess that's a different discussion.

Short answer: Yes.

DD 14 pretty consistenly orders off the children's menu without any issues. Twice (two different trips and one was DLR) we were told she could order of the kids menu but it would have to be an adult portion and we would be charged the adult price. That was fine with us. However I don't think this is the norm as others have said, however it can happen from time to time but I don't think it would be an issue with a 10 year old.

Enjoy your trip!

My DD has so many food allergies, that they are more than happy to let her order off the kids menu!

Thank you for this information.

I will be there with there with my grandchildren who will be 12 when we go. Where as my granddaughter can and will eat an adult meal plus mine if I let her (and is so slim), her brother is very picky (just like his Poppy was). While I try and get him to try different things I like that he can order what he does like too.

I was passing up on some places because I didn't think he would like anything, now we can try them. :cool1:

We ran into this problem on one trip at 2 restaurants, LTT and PrimeTime Cafe, at both the hostess told us upon checking in that our son would not be allowed to order from the children's menu. Fine, we didn't even ask so not sure why it was a point of emphasis and the hostess at LTT was down right rude about it. So of course I had to fire back at her "well it's not like we asked you for a child's menu did we?" :rolleyes1

On the other hand, on one trip when our kids were little and very picky we found that nearly every restaurant was willing to serve a plain grilled chicken breast with sides even if it wasn't on the menu.

I believe after 5 trips to WDW that they really understand and want to cater to families needs as much as possible. Just be polite when asking. :)

My DS was a nuggets or mozz stix guy. Around age 15 he decided to try filet mignon. Long story short and lots of $$ later:rotfl: that is his go to meal now!

OP you shouldn't have any problems! Have a great trip!!
