Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

Geez, just figured out roughly how much "exercise" I got in this weekend. Without counting all the walking and wheelchair pushing at the airport on Friday and Sunday, this is what I came up with.
Saturday -- walking at MK and MGM and to and from all transportation 8 a.m. - midnight (16 hours) -- figure at least half of that is walking -- 8 hours = 480 minutes
Sunday -- walking 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm (7.5 hours) at EPCOT -- figure at least 3.5 hours walking = 210 minutes.
Total of at least 690 minutes!

Hi Cam

I love your trip report. I'm so exceited to go back in January :cool1: :cool1:

Your food plan was wonderful. You made such great choices. You got to enjoy lots of great food AND get rewarded for your discipline with a 1.5 lb loss. YOU GO, GIRL :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Isn't it fantastic to enjoy WDW without overendulging and going home bloated and disappointed with yourself? I have only experienced that wonderful feeling on one trip so far (Oct 2004). Usually I try to pack in every endulgence I can think of with the expectation of "getting back on track" when I got home. It never went that way!!!!!!!

Keep up the GREAT work!

Sunny

Morning Cam! :sunny:

I am so happy to hear that you and Judy had a wonderful time at WDW! :goodvibes Your trip report was a lot of fun to read! :Pinkbounc

Have a great day today! :sunny:

Hi Cam!!!! That is wonderful that you had a great time on your trip. I really enjoyed reading your report

Hope you are having a great day, keep up the good work

Dinner last night was 2 whole wheat tortillas (4) w/3 slices low fat turkey (2) & mustard. Dessert was a no pudge ice cream cone (2) (glad they are gone -- soggy this time for some reason). Then I ate some pretzels (2). Then I ate 2 sugar free chocolates (2). I was within my points, so no problem there, but while I was eating desserts I knew I was stress eating (talking to my future former SIL about DB -- not "dear" BTW). The stress of knowing he has ruined his second marriage and how badly his kids from his first marriage are suffering for his lack of responsibility makes me feel so sad, especially since I feel my parents would have been so distressed if they'd been alive to see this. UGH!

Today is going well so far, though it is another night when I won't be home until about 9:15 (if I don't stop for groceries on the way home).
B: weight watchers "egg mcmuffin" (4)
S: lite string cheese (1)
L: tomatoes w/balsamic vinegar (0); lean cuisine bowtie pasta w/veggies (5)

Heading out soon for another colorguard parent flag effort. I LOVE doing this, but kind of resent not having time to workout right now because of all my other commitments. I have to get back into the routine of getting up at 5:30 a.m. to go wogging.

Booked our flights today for the 1/2 marathon weekend. Flying down Wednesday night with the expectation of doing parks on Thursday and Friday (not too much, though), the exposition and WISH dinner on Friday, the 1/2 on Saturday, cheer on other WISHERs Sunday at the full, do the parks on Monday, and fly back Monday night. Hoping everything will be on target at that point for our friend who is coming to stay with the kids. Plenty of time to worry about that later, though.

Cam,
What a great trip report! You are amazing. Congratulations on making up your mind to be on a healthy lifestyle. Seems like you have it figured for sure. It is inspirational to me. Sounds like a great time was had and lots of fun.

Thank you, Lily! You are so incredibly sweet. You know, someday, I am going to be attributing reaching my fitness goals to you and some others here who really gave me the encouragement I needed. I am so grateful for what you bring to me!

KUNGALOOSH! [Isn't that the most amazing, interesting, fun place?] Can't wait to introduce DH to it in January.

Last night was pretty "snacky" because I got home so late and was sooo hungry and got some more disturbing news about my brother. So, I ate my planned dinner and was grazing in the cabinets until I removed myself and my book to the bedroom where there was no food! ;)

Finishing up food for yesterday:
S: fruit & nut bar (3)
D: 4 turkey meatballs & 4 pierogies (8)
S: 1 weight watchers candy (1); few baked tortillas and few baked doritos (2)

Brought my workout bag today and will go to the gym before going home. I have come to the realization -- AGAIN -- that if I go home first, I just won't make it back out the door, what with calls to return, paperwork or straightening to do, and eating to do, and good books to read! So, the plan is to get back to keeping a bag packed in my car with full workout outfit, ipod shuffle, and magazines/book, and try to get to the Y Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Tuesday and Thursday nights are consumed right now with colorguard/marching band stuff).

Then, any wogging I can do in the morning will prepare me for training starting in October.

The plan tonight will be to try to use the TM at some slight incline. I think if I do that at least once a week and increase the incline, it should help my pace.

Food today:
B: 3 slices turkey bacon (3) on lite bread (1)
S: WW carrot cake snack cake (1) (I have heard so many people rave about these and was worried I might have found a new fixation. My friend brought me one and I ate it for a snack and am glad to report that it is pretty sweet and therefore, not something I'd reach for too frequently).
L: will be salad w/fat free dressing (0); 2 whole wheat tortillas (4) with 98% fat free turkey (2); 1 wedge laughing cow swiss, spread between two tortillas.

Well, I did get to the gym tonight, but did something slightly different than planned: 1 mile on elliptical in 15:00, 7 miles on bike in 20:00 and then packed it up to head to the fountain walk.
I did my 5 minute warmup and then jogged the first minute of each 5 minute interval. My result wasn't too bad considering I havent wogged since 8/13. Here is how I have done the three times I have done this walk/jog interval training:
8/10 31 minutes -- 1.98 miles
8/13 30:59 minutes -- 2.03 miles
8/24 31:00 minutes -- 2.02 miles
Pretty consistent and I didn't lose too much ground, so I am pleased. It just convinces me I'd improve if I did it more frequently.
Unfortunately the next few days spell disaster for any workout plan. Tomorrow night is the Jimmy Buffett concert and then we leave for NY on Friday a.m. to attend the performing arts festival at DS12's camp and then bring him home on Sunday. Maybe I will get out for a wog Sunday night, so that will only be 2 days missed.

Great job on getting to the gym! I love the elliptical machine! It is my favorite workout machine! Have a great rest of the week!! :goodvibes

Thanks, Daisy!

Finishing out food last night

D: 2 boca philly cheesesteak style "burgers"(5); weight watchers bagel (2); whole wheat 10 grain tortilla (2); sandies 100 cal pack (2)

I was actually too full to eat anything else, even though we'd just bought all sorts of yummy, healthy groceries!

Today's plan:
B: 4 slices turkey bacon on 2 lite english muffins (6)
L: (I can't even think about it right now because I am too full :teeth: )

The trip to Disney sounds great. You packed a lot in a weekend and used such restraint with the food! No wonder you have lost 50 lbs. Congrats congrats. What an inspiration. :flower:
I love this board because I learn new stuff all the time. I've never been to the opening celebration either or the Tiki room. What is the Tiki room like?

Hi Cam!!!

So happy to be catching up on your experiences! Especially that WDW trip! I am so glad that you had a blast! Disney is amazing to guests with special needs in my experience. It is awesome that you did not postpone the trip!

You saw so many of my faves! Like Philharmagic, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and Great Movie Ride. Wasn't Soarin' amazing?? I can't wait to be back there! LOL

I hope that you are psyched to be going back to do the 1/2!
Have a happy & healthy night!

Mike :goodvibes

Just thought I would pop in and say again how well I think you are doing. I have read through your whole journal during the last month or so and you are definitely doing it right!!

I hope that we can manage to meet up at WDW in January. It would be nice to see you and Howard again even if for only a few minutes as we wog along :)

Thanks for welcoming me on the marathon thread and I am impressed that you remembered me from the cruise as well. You were nearly perfect with the details - we did bring dd15 (who is now dd19 and off to college this week) but it was dd1 rather than ds1. She is now 5 and in her second week of kindergarten and we now have ds2 who is obviously a new addition since that cruise. We had a great time on the cruise and dh and I especially enjoyed the catamaran trip (dd15 and my sister both were somewhat seasick and didn't enjoy it quite so much) but I definitely could have done without the nudist sailors we encountered!!

I just wanted you to know that there are not only those who post here but many others who are finding true inspiration from your journey. I know that I have definitely been inspired and that is has truly helped me as I have begun my own journey. Thank you and best wishes for continued success!

just wanted to stop by and say hi and hope you have a great weekend!!
thanks again for starting the cheat free challenge--was a great idea!!!

Thanks, Sunny! I am just getting the chance to read my own journal pretty thoroughly and thank everyone for stopping by. Your praise is so greatly appreciated. You are so right about coming home with a different attitude. I LOVE the idea of my clothes fitting as well after a trip as before. ;) Of course, that would be totally different on a DCL cruise! :flower:

Thank you so much, Tracy & eeyore25! Your good wishes are so appreciated. I usually check in on my journal early in the morning and having all those smiling "voices" waiting for me really makes my day!

Daisy -- I always joke that it is the only machine where I can work up a sweat in the first 5 minutes. I did notice when I did it last week that my heart rate didn't get as high as it had been in the past. So, either that means I am becoming a bit more fit or I am just not working hard enough ;)

Thanks, Calena! The Tiki Room is a sweet, nostalgic, short show inside a tiki hut type building with benches in the round. In the center, above you are a bunch of bird perches from which Iago and Zazu engage in some banter and direct some musical numbers. People are always amazed that the other birds look so real. Some people think the show is outdated and hokey, but I think it is really fun. And it is really nice for a short break out of the sun. I have to tell you, just watching the very tame squirrels and birds outside in the waiting area near the waterfall was pretty entertaining too! :goodvibes

Thanks, Mike! I have missed you and can't wait to go catch up on your journal. I have to agree that we could not have had a better time anywhere with Judy in a wheelchair, and I am SOOO glad we didn't postpone.

And "Soarin'" was absolutely phenomenal! I can't wait to share that experience with Howard. Judy said she loved hearing my laughter when we "took off" through the clouds. I really couldn't contain myself -- it was an experience I will never have in "real life" and just getting some of that sensation was fantastic! :cloud9:

Rhonda -- I am really looking forward to seeing you in January! I hope you will make it to the Trails End dinner Friday night so we can meet up there! Thank you for your kind words here in my journal. You are so sweet

Hi, Jen! I am loving that challenge! Some days it is the only thing that keeps me on track! Can you believe I actually had a dream last night that I had to start over because I went to the store and bought a king sized candy bar and ate it? Isn't that weird? First of all, candy is not my weakness, and especially not chocolate, and I have never bought a king-sized bar in my life. :confused3 I just can't even believe I dreamt about that! Yeah, you can tell where my priorities lie!

Wow, another weekend over and summer's end is within sight. How the heck did that happen?

Thursday night's Buffett concert was amazing! We enjoyed everything about it except all the drunk or high people around us. I think we were among only about 20% of the crowd around us that was completely sober. I was physically ill to see a 20-something girl and her boyfriend get beer for the two ~16 year old boys in front of us (one of which was her brother) -- the boys were obviously high or drunk before intermission and then the big sister bought them both large plastic cups of beer and proceeded to take pix of them acting goofy. I thought I was literally going to vomit. We left soon thereafter, partially in self-defense rather than to be in the drunken crowd or all those drunk/high drivers. The concert itself, though, was absolutely amazing. Jimmy sure knows how to entertain! And I think I danced for two solid hours!

Oh, for food there -- I did a vegan veggie burger and we shared 2 philly pretzels and diet soda. On the way home, I had 2 TB crunchy tacos w/no cheese, add tomato. Was well within my points for the day, so that was good.

We went up to DS12's camp on Friday -- that area of the Catskills is so beautiful (the best part, however, was the absence of cell phone signal! ;) ) First caught sight of DS from backstage while we were waiting for his play to start. He did a great job in a major role in his play and his voice was wonderful. That is the first time he has performed with a head mike and I was amazed at how different and mature his voice sounded.

Friday night we got to hear his "rock band" perform a song they wrote -- he was the lead singer :teeth: Let's just say their enthusiasm eclipsed their talent! ;) But they were having a great time and the crowd went wild for them! :Pinkbounc That was the best thing about seeing all the performances this weekend -- 1000% support of every single effort. It was so wonderful and heartwarming to see. :grouphug: We made note of some of the kids' names, especially the two leads in Les Mis, because I think they are destined for great things.

Food Friday was good -- there were a lot of temptations in the dining room, but I skipped the cheeseburgers, fries & hot dogs and chips and nachos and did okay. Stopped at McDs on the way back to the hotel that night and DH and DD gave in to mcnuggets, fries & 1/4 pounders -- I had a hot fudge sundae with nuts (well worth every one of the 7 points it cost -- so much so that I did it again Saturday night!)

Did well again with food Saturday so that I could "afford" another sundae for dessert when we left the camp with DS and all his "stuff". He wanted mcnuggets and a cheeseburger and fries and a shake and we let him have it all. He had skipped dinner since he had a rehearsal for his circus performance, so he was ravenous by that point.

I made a veggie & beef soup/stew when we got home yesterday and munched on that for late lunch and dinner last night. Didn't go to the gym as I thought I might. Pitiful, really, but I figure we walked at least 2 solid hours Friday and 3 solid hours Saturday, increasing my August exercise challenge by 300 minutes total.

The scale looked to be down about another 1.5 this morning (I was a bit incredulous and I think I heard it scream "ENOUGH!" after I stepped on it about 6 times all with the same number! ;) ) Hoping that is the number that shows up tomorrow for official WI. Eating lots of veggies today, so we'll see.

Today's food:
B: 10 grain tortilla w/lite turkey (3)
S: fat free yogurt (2) with unsweetened frozen strawberries (1)
L: cucumbers & tomatoes (0)
S: baby carrots (1)
D: veggies from beef stew/soup (1)

Not sure what else I will eat, but am hoping to get to the gym and then to the fountain walk. There were so many gnats there last week, and I am hoping it won't be so bad tonight. Also hoping to get in 3.1 miles at something better than 49:47 (my last 5K time), so that I can register for a 5K this Saturday with some expectation of a new PB.

Hi Cam,

Glad you enjoyed the Buffet concert, too bad so many others needed substances to enhance their experience :confused3 You were wise to leave early.

Your food and weightloss are great! Did you get your 50lb magnet? I hope WI goes great :wizard: :cheer2:

Sunny

im glad you enjoyed the concert--i had family members there that said the asme thing about the crowd--

have a great day

Hi Cam!!!

Congrats on maintaining such good eating choices in the face of temptation! Good job! Sounds like you had a blast going to get your DS from Camp. And sorry to hear that not everyone at the Buffett concert was not there just for the music!

Keep up the great work!!!
Mike :goodvibes

Well, this is so unbelievable to me that I almost decided to NOT believe it, but I want to capture the moment and enjoy it for as long as it lasts. I was down another 2 pounds this morning! I was thrilled to have lost 1.5 this past week, but felt kind of bloated and icky yesterday morning, so I was curious to see what the scale had to say this morning. I was so STUNNED :earseek: when the scale KEPT ON SAYING I was down 2 more pounds, that I woke up DH and insisted he step on the scale -- his weight was absolutely accurate, so I stepped on the scale, reset it, and stepped on it again no less than 10 times! And it said the same thing again and again! This is so incredible to me. It means I've lost 5.5 pounds in August! I have NO IDEA if it will be the same tomorrow morning, but I don't even care. I have not seen this number in so long that I don't even remember weighing this much! It certainly goes back to my early college days. DH has never even known me at this weight and we met in October of 82. I know I am going on and on. I can't help it. I am really excited!

Food yesterday was interesting, since I was in Court all day, but I did pretty well and didn't use all my points.
B: lite english muffin w/lite turkey (1.5)
L: 1/2 turkey sandwich (4)
S: pretzels (2)
D: fajita chicken on lettuce (5); veggie beef soup/stew (8)

Today:
B: 2 lite english muffins (2); 4 slices light turkey (1)
L: salad w/provolone cheese & multigrain roll (7)
S: cheddar flavored soy crisps (1 bag) (3)

Not sure of the rest of the plan, but I will need protein this afternoon, since I am going to the gym tonight.

Meeting my friend to walk tomorrow a.m. at 5:45, and then will do a 5K Saturday a.m., assuming the weather is not too ugly. DD17 (that day!) is going to do it too, and it is her first 5K. I am kind of torn -- she is not very fit and I am not sure what pace we'd keep if we walked it together, and I am trying to beat my 49:47 time from last time. So, I am hoping she won't mind if I just go ahead of her and do my own thing --I am going to have to talk to her about this to make sure she won't be upset about doing it mostly alone. UGH! She may actually get way ahead of me (she is a bit taller and has really long legs! :teeth: )
