Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

:cheer2: CONGRATS CAM!!!!!!!! :cheer2:

I'm so so so super proud of you for completing the inaugural DL half marathon. Another amazing milestone in your journey, Cam!! Wow!!! I would have LOVED to have been there for that race :). Maybe someday :confused3 . (right now just hoping to make it to WDW in one piece lol).

Glad you are feeling great and back on track with training and eating!! That's so impressive!! It really is :grouphug: .

Hi Cam!

Just read back thru the last little bit of your journal and WOW...GREAT JOB!!!! Awesome that you did the DL Half...you should be really proud of yourself!!! You are getting together an impressive medal collection!

Only 100 or so days until the full deal down in Orlando...you up for the task?? LOL

And good luck with your weight loss goal...20 is a lot in 3 months but you can do anything that you put your mind to ;)

Have a great day and thanks for the post in my journal!

Amy and Scott -- Thank you so much!
Amy-- you are so inspirational to me. I really hope you do get to wear that castle medal some day -- after January, a 1/2 marathon (even through the hills and the streets of Anaheim) should be a walk in the park for you! :cool1:

Scott- You know, I am trying to talk myself into believing that I am up for the task in January, but even though I am walking it rather than running it, 26.1 miles is still a long way to go and I have to admit I am initimidated as he** at the prospect.

I am really looking forward to undertaking this challenge with all my WISH teammates. I know we can all meet our goals! :thumbsup2

Scale was down another .6 this morning, so I am now only .3 higher than when we went away. I'm hoping to keep a handle on things this weekend while life is insane and a friend is visiting. I'll keep a huge salad in the fridge and try to use that for all meals that I can control.

Food plan for today:
B: weight watchers multigrain toast w/lite peanut butter & coffee w/sugar free creamer (3)
S: weight watchers multigrain toast w/lite ham (2)
L: garden salad w/fat free dressing (0); weight watchers bread w/lite turkey (2)
S: weight watchers yogurt w/pretzels (4)
D: LC dinner (6); green beans (0); corn (1)
dessert: lite popcorn & kettle corn mixed (3)
dessert#2 -- weight watchers 2 pt bar (2)

--------------
UGH! Another 2 slices of weight watchers traditional grains bread at lunch, making it 6 slices total. WHAT is with me? I don't think I am supposed to do that, even if I am well within my points. But I was majorly craving carbs so it was the toast or getting a salad with radiatore pasta in it. I figured this would do to satisfy the craving.

Dinner is going to have to be protein-intense. I need to try to get away from my carb addiction.

Hi Cam!

Hey, walking, running, jogging, wogging..doesn't matter....a marathon is a marathon and the thought can be quite intimidating at times :) But you'll do GREAT!! And just think of how giddy and happy we are all gonna be once we finish that sucker.....I can't wait!!!

Great job with the weight and awesome idea of having a salad ready to go at all times...I need to steal that idea myself for those days when I'm faced with the "what's to eat" syndrome..those are the days that usually end up bad food ones.

Hope you have a good day today and a great weekend!

Scott -- Thanks for your support! I really appreciate it! And let me tell you, giddy is not going to begin to describe how I will feel crossing that finish line. :cool1:  I am just afraid I will be crying so much that I'll rust my Mickey!

Seriously, we'll have to have a huge party: BTW, are you signed up for the Illuminations Dessert party for Sunday night? I definitely intend to eat whatever I want that night!

Food today:
B: coffee & soft pretzel (cross-country meet; no time for breakfast) -- 5

Hope the rest of your day today is a good one!

Thank you so much, Jen! Yes, I now own a gorgeous, honkin' HUGE castle medal that says "Inaugural" on it, so there will never be another one like that. Pretty cool. :goodvibes: Now that makes it a Donald, and a Minnie and a Sleeping Beauty Castle. Going for the Mickey in January, though I seriously doubt my sanity in that regard.
Wow...youre gonna have to post a picture of this collection!!! you WILL get the Mickey in january--and well be here posting for ya too :)

Posting this from the weekly training thread so that I have it here.

My office was closed yesterday for the holiday, so I left a little after three and took the opportunity to do an outside training session. Was supposed to have done 9 miles LW this past weekend, but wasn't able to carve out the time.

This session was tough because I had mapped out a course that ended up not working -- I couldn't get across the highway in rush hour traffic. There were no sidewalks and no shoulders at most of where I thought I was going, so I ended up cutting across fields and active parking lots and behind a shopping center through the delivery area. I hadn't even considered what it would be like crossing all the streets and driveways and parking lots and stopping for after school traffic, etc. Just very bad planning on my part. Got parts of miles 4 and 5 in at a walking path, so that helped a little.

The course I ended up doing really affected my ankles and hip and I ended up with blisters on my feet. Not sure about why I ended up with blisters -- that has happened in my running shoes only the one time I wore them without socks. Even Howard was all "poor baby" when he saw them. You should have seen me trying to get to the phone last night -- UGH! I think my body thought I was going to try to do DL again and was rebelling!

My mile times:
1 -- 16:10
2 -- 15:27
3 -- 16:47
4 -- 15:19
5-- 15:19
6 -- 16:33
7 -- 16:02
8 -- 16:21
.25 -- pace 17:10

So, my pace stunk and I didn't get to 9 miles. But, I'll take the 8.25 for now and look forward to getting back on track.

Not sure what happened to my posts yesterday where I updated the weekend and posted for yesterday, too. I guess I'll just pick up from yesterday and do today.

L: whole wheat pasta w/corn, diced tomatoes & broccoli (4); salad w/lite dressing (1)

Hi Cam!

Sorry you had a such a tough 9 miler (8.25, but who's counting ;) ) And that stinks about the blisters...you must have been miserable trying to get around!

Hang in there and I hope today is a better day for you!

Thanks, Scott! You are a sweetie!

Forgot to post that I am going back to weight watchers meetings tonight. Not sure how the heck I am going to find the time to go every week and still get in a workout of any type on Tuesday nights, but I am determined to lose another 20 pounds before I leave to do the Full on 1/5/07. SOMETHING has to get my weight loss going again. Hoping this is it. (where is that fingers crossed smiley?)

Went to Weight Watchers last night. My plan is to lose 20 pounds before the marathon. Not sure how that is going to happen since I know how crazy it can be with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. I am actually UP .8 from when I went back to WW on 4/18. How pathetic. I guess I should be glad I haven't gained more than that, but it is disheartening not to have a net loss after 5+ months. Yeah, I sure have this whole "maintaining" thing down pat. Problem is -- I am NOT supposed to be maintaining this weight!

So, I'll call last night's weight "20 pounds from mini-goal".

Food today:
B: coffee w/sugar free creamer & sweetener (0)
S: weight watchers yogurt (1)
L (big meal of the day, planned for it by having low points up till now)
naan (4); tikka chicken (3); veggie samosa (3); rice (3)
S: wheat thin crisps (2)
D: weight watchers pot roast over greenbeans (3); bite of chicken (.5)
dessert: rice crisps & fat free pretzels (4); 2 sugar free ice pops (.5)

-----------------
Summary of Day:
WW healthy eating guidelines:
F/V -- 3
water -- 100 oz
milk -- 1
vitamin -- yes
points --24/24
Exercise: 20 mins elliptical; 40 mins bike

Hi Cam!

Hey, good luck with the weight loss plan :) I hope that WW is what you're looking for and provides good guidance for you....I know that if you maintain a good exercise program (doesn't have to be severe, just get the heart rate up a little) and drink a lot of water, it will help you out :)

We're here to support you!

Have a good day!

Hi Cam,

Congrats on completing the DL half!! I am so proud of you for finishing it. Way to go!!!!

You are going to do great in January, I just know it. As Scott, said, don't get discouraged by walking the marathon, a marathon is a marathon even if you are walking. All that matters is that you do your best to the best of your ability!!! You are going to do great!!!

Keep up the great work!! You are doing a wonderful job!

Happy Wednesday!

Thanks, Scott. I know WW works and that is how I have lost well over 50 pounds since my heart surgery and more before that. I have some bad, compulsive food habits I have to break -- I am absolutely addicted to carbs and "need" some every night before I go to bed. I usually spend 3-4 points on fat free chips, fat free pretzels, and/or soy or rice crisps. If I could eliminate spending those last few points each night on carbs before going to bed, my weight loss would probably move along much faster. Oh, well, fixing the behaviors one at a time.

Thank you, Jamie! I have to tell you that not letting down my WISH supporters was a HUGE motivator on the morning of the DL half -- I was so exhausted and it really hit me part way through the race but the support I have found here pushed me to keep going. :grouphug:

Went to the gym last night for a bit of cross-training. My schedule is a bit jumbled since my Saturday LW ended up being Monday. So, I didn't use yesterday as a rest day. I didn't have time to pull together my gym stuff this morning so I may not go to the gym tonight unless I can get out of work early enough to go home and change clothes and then head there.

Food today:
B: lite turkey on thin slice of bagel (3); coffee w/skim milk (1)
L: grilled, marinated chicken (3); mushrooms, onions, cucumbers (0)
S: coffee w/SF creamer (.5); wheat thin crisps (2)
D: grilled chicken (6); lite english muffin (1); veggies (0)
dessert: granola bar (4); few pretzels (1)

Summary of Day:
WW healthy eating guidelines:
F/V -- 6
water -- 88 oz
milk -- 1
vitamin -- yes
points -- 21.5/24
Exercise:none

Hi Cam,

You are going to do a great job in January! You CAN do it! You WILL do it! :grouphug:

I understand what you mean about the weight loss thing... I have been maintaining for awhile too. The next few months will be kind of tough with all of the holidays that are coming up, but I know you can do it, Cam! :thumbsup2

Have a great Thursday! :sunny:

Cam - So happy that WW works so well for you!! Congrats on the awesome weight loss since the surgery! I totally think you hit the nail on the head with the "one at a time" thought process. It's easy to get overwhelmed with lots of chaos, weather it be food, exercise or life in general...and the take it one day at a time/one step at a time/one thing at a time philosophy is a good one to take (even though it's tough sometimes!)

Hope you have a great day!
