We are visiting the Fort for the first time in June and will be camping with our two pets. We are lifelong campers, but this will be the first time at Fort Wilderness.
I am curious about how the sites work. I keep seeing on the boards that sites are "pet friendly" but only in certain loops. Are all sites (excluding tent/pop-up) not pet friendly? We are camping in travel trailer on a full hook-up site. Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated!

You should request a pet loop when making your reservation. If you did not you can call back and request it be added. It is supposed to be an option (add request) when reserving online, but it doesn't seem to show up all the time. I noticed it is also a request you can make when doing early check in online. In any event there is a $5 per day fee due at check in. Pet loops have clean up stations (with bags). There is also a nice off lead park and a trail for walking your pets. Areas were pets are not allowed are marked. Generally they are very pet friendly and we have never had any issues with our dogs or getting a pet loop. In fact we are heading to the Fort tomorrow morning with our 4 legged kids in tow.

There are 4 full hook-up loops. 1600 1700 1800 1900 they are all pet friendly loops. There is a pet walk area by the canal. It is at the back of 1800 and a piece of it is by the 1600.

There is suppose to be pet and nonpet loops. The Fort seems to place people with pets in non pet loops as overflow. We've been placed several times like this.

I hope you and your 4 legged fur babies have a magical stay.

There area pet loops in each class of site reservation, just make sure you say something when you reserve. We stay in the 300 loop which is a preferred loop closest to the dog park, the 500 loop is a premium pet loop which is also close to the dog park.

Make your plan to bring your animals known in all your communications. If they "misplace" you in a non-pet loop at check-in; say something at that time. (If you are in a pet-free loop and someone complains, you will have to be moved) Have a great time; you will love Ft Wilderness.

1) No.
2) Many folks do not want barking dogs or poopy sites next to them.
3) Their pleasure must also be respected.

Hence my reason for asking the question! I made my reservations online, and then called WDW to ensure that it was noted that I had a pet friendly site. Is there anything else that I need to do prior to arrival?

I don't mean to ask a stupid question, but are you traveling with dogs? Or are your pets some other species?

I've always wondered whether campgrounds mean "dogs" when they say "pets". Why not just say dogs? We have traveled with our dog, but when she passed away we travelled with our cat. I understand charging extra for a dog, but my cat never leaves the camper. I know people who travel with their bird and it never leaves their camper.

If your dogs are runners ask to be over by the dog park, it a nice sized area with a 4 ft fence.

Also you can book kennel time at the onsite kennel which is a left and then right, out of the front of FW. mabye a mile. Think it called best friends. About $40 a day. We brought our lab this past summer and wanted to make sure she had some way to burn off energy as well as provide us a way to go parking ALL day and not have to worry about letting her out. if you do go, make sure you are current on all your shots and flea/tick.

Napria, there is no such thing as a stupid question!! I do agree with your assertion about cats! :thumbsup2
Jayhawk, I'll let this picture speak for whether they are runners or not!!! :)

As far as the comment above about people not wanting to be by barking or "poopy" sites, I understand not wanting to be by barking, but I would hope all of us pet owners clean up after our pets, I know I always do! pirate:

I could not agree with you more!!!

:rotfl2: They'd use this icon because "I'm too lazy to stand up and laugh".

That's pretty much a standard reply to anyone who sees this photo!! We actually had people driving by, stopping, and backing up to take their picture!! To be so big, you would never know they were there if you were camping beside them. They don't bark, they love to be "loved on" by kids and people walking by, and are very obedient!

You would be my 'ideal' neighbors whether at the Fort or home!! ::yes::

Nothing worse than a dog that barks at every leaf that moves in the wind! Thankfully our home neighbors (3 homes) are very considerate, and have taught their dogs that barking for the fun of hearing themselves is not tolerated. :goodvibes

Being a dog owner, I couldn't agree with you more! I cannot stand camping with inconsiderate dog owners who allow their dogs to bark all day and night, and don't clean up after them! The FIRST time my two bark (usually in the morning when we let them out and they want back in...) they receive a scolding and will never be heard again! We have camped with them since they both were puppies (my Bassett is 10, Boxer is 7), so they are accustomed to the nuances of camping. Plus, when we know we are going to be gone all day, such as a park, we will kennel them anyway. Its not fair to them to be cooped up in the camper all day long when they can have a "vacation" too!

Ok this is my first year with the rv. My dogs bark. One is sick so her bark is not very loud but the other one barks. They are both big dogs. When I sit outside with them and another dog or the horse carriage goes by they bark. I get on them but they still bark. Am I annoying? If they are outside I try to get on them right away but seriously they bark and loud. I guess I am just apologizing to my neighbors. I try but they are dogs.

We started taking ours at 7 months old so she knows the rules. Of course you're gonna get some bark out of most dogs at some point.

If you want to try something, put water in a spray bottle. When they bark give them a squirt and say no. We learned this at puppy school, it usually works.

This is a HUGE fear of mine. Our reasons behind getting an RV were so we can take our puppy (she's an 11 month old German Shepherd, so not really a puppy anymore!) with us on vacations.

We're doing at least 2 RV trips before the Fort so we're hoping to get her in camping shape prior to our arrival in Disney.

We use the water bottle a lot (teaching her to walk on a leash and heel) so I'm hoping it will work with barking. GSDs are very smart and our hope is that she will learn the difference from home -- where we NEED her to bark (we live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and appreciate her letting us know when someone is coming up to the house) and in the RV where we need her to be quiet.

I would hate to be the annoying neighbor with the barky dog.
