DH and I decide to take DS (2.5) camping for his first time. We are only going to tent camp one night, we are doing Day out with Thomas on Saturday and then Dutchwonderland the following day. DH and I haven't camped in over 5 years, so we are a little rusty and have never camped with a toddler so that is going to be interesting. Anyone have some tips or advice to spare? I know this sounds stupid but I'm worried about DS being in a sleeping bag that he will wiggle to the bottom and suffocate and I'm worried blankets won't be warn enough!

He will love it! I took my son for his first trip right around his second birthday. I "layered" his sleep clothes because I knew he wouldnt stay in a sleeping back. He did just fine with temps dipping down into the mid 50's at night. He really enjoyed the camping atmosphere. The crowds at the parks not so much. I also brought a little DVD player for him to watch (and mostly to keep him still long enough to get sleepy!) My only big worries was he would "wonder" out of the tent while I was sleeping. The first night I put a very small zip tie on the zipper to the tent door but what a pain that thing was when I had to get up and go potty. I dont recommend it but a friend of mine swears by it. I just post myself in front of the door so he would have to crawl over me to get out, if that dont wake me up.. there is obviously a bigger issue.. :rotfl:

I was thinking about the zip tie! Wandering off was my first worry! He doesn't get out of bed at night at home but I'm not taking any chances!

well it definatley works, just dont do what I did and forget your cutting device out side... and wait til you were about to pee on yourself to try and get out.. :rotfl2:

you didn't say when you would be camping! Blanket sleepers made of polar fleece are great and can be just the ticket unless you are sleeping in colder weather (frigid) just be sure whatever surface he is sleeping on has a cover over it that is warm. even summer sleeping can be cool from the ground up! He should be fine! My kids never wandred out when I was sleeping and they started tent camping in diapers! ...No worries!

This Saturday in PA! DH and I just realized we should probably set up the tent and make sure it's in 1 piece before we leave lol!
