Hi! We are spending Thanksgiving week at Fort Wilderness in a tent. We are starting to plan our meals. Does anyone have suggestions for meals at the campsites? Maybe some quick, easy meals? Breakfast ideas too. The first night we arrive, we thought hotdogs on a stick over the fire, something easy after we set up our tents. Thanksgiving we plan on deep frying a turkey. What does everyone think???:confused3

We like chili when camping. Cook it at home and put it in a vacuum seal bag. Freeze it and it will keep the cooler cold. Easy clean up if you reheat it in the bag in boiling water. No pot to clean unless the bag pops!

Mahwah,

We have several recent threads with meal suggestions. If you search on the keyword "recipe" you will hit several.

Folks also pre-cook meals at home or use a crock pot to slow-cook while they are gone. How you set up your campsite and how much kitchen you bring along will dictate how viable those options are.

We did a Thanksgiving meal for about 15 people out of a popup a couple years ago. I used a tabletop roaster oven for the turkey, made some instant taters, and the Winn Dixie deli supplied the pumpkin pies. We ate outside and then watched football on the tv while talking, walking, throwing the ball, and enjoying the day. It was fun. Just keep it simple and it should go well.

This is my go-to item when camping. I make breakfast sandwiches in it by cooking the bacon, then the egg, then the biscuits and then adding a slice of cheese afterwards. I use it to make grilled cheese sandwiches and hot pressed sandwiches of ham and cheese or turkey and cheese. I also use it to cook hot dogs and cheddarwurst sausages when we don't feel like waiting for a fire to get going. It makes great biscuits if you want some to go with your turkey and I also use it to cook cinnamon rolls, the kind that come out of a can. And last but not least you can always make waffles in it!

I love that this thing is so small but cooks for 2 people at a time and the plates come off so they are extremely easy to clean. If you looking up cooking in a waffle iron online you can find even more things to do with it. Enjoy your trip!!!

Your bringing a deep fryer....that's dedication to the cause! We'll be there too...surprising last minute opening as we didn't intend to go this Thanksgiving.

We usually buy bag salad or sides potato salad etc already made. Then grill a meat. Quick and easy.

I make double batches of cassaroles at home in the weeks before a campout. Then I freeze them and they act as extra ice in the cooler. When thawed, I pop them in the crock pot at campsite, using slow cooker liner bags for easy clean up. While dinner is being reheated, I can hit the pool, take a shower, or lounge with a novel and cold drink. I also use the crock pot to make deluxe oatmeal overnight, using brown sugar and raisins, dried apricots, nuts, etc. Smells so good to wake up to in the morning.
