Camping Spot on I-75

Im sure its been asked many times but I need suggestions for a safe permissable spot to stop and sleep a few hours along I-75 near Ocala. Can you sleep in Florida rest areas ? I will be in my camper with a small generator running for a/c.

I'm planning on leaving my house around 8 pm and plan to be in Ocala around 2-4 am. Usually around that time my vampire family starts to get sleepy so I want to stop for a short nap and then head on to the Fort for check in.

I also wanted to ask what is the policy is for the overflow/arrival lot at the Fort. Obviously they won't allow true overnight camping. But what if I arrive at 4 am ? Could I crank my generator and sleep a few hours ? The go check in and set up while the kids hit the pool.

I am not 100% sure if you are allowed to sleep at a FL rest area, but I do know the truckers do it, and a lot of campers do it also. Being on I-75 in the Ocala area, there should be a lot of truck stops along that route that you could possibly stop at for a few hours.

When you get to FW you will have to go through the guard gate, and they will tell you where to go then. They do not allow overnight camping in the overflow, but considering what time you will be there they might just allow it. A lot of times when you get there early they do have your site ready.

I have stayed in one about mile marker 413 and there is a larger one about mile marker 383 (just South of Gainsville). I have used both of these.

I have arrived early at FW and if your site was ready, they let you go to it, but I have also had to pull over to the overflow lot & wait. We just showered & ate breakfast & waited until our site was ready. I don't know what their official policy is or how it is enforced.

When you say you arrived early how early are you talking about ? Just looking for previous experience. Thanks
