So we are complete novices of WDW, never been ever! DH is giving a paper at a conference in Orlando the first week of March so we figured we'd haul our eldest out of 1st grade for a week and hit Disney.

We're planning on driving from Houston with our 27' travel trailer and staying at the Ft Wilderness campground for 7 nights. Is this realistic? Will we be able to get reservations for a full hook-up? Are there likely to be any discounts on the 'rack rate' of $82/night? We've applied for a Disney Visa card - does that help?!

What do we need to consider? We have 3 boys (6, 3 and baby will be 7 months by then).

Any suggestions on which loop to request? We have a dog but are seriously considering leaving him home with friends as this is our first visit.

I'm just learning and learning and learning at the moment!

Thanks

BX

Get ready because you're going to get lots of help, we love to help new visitors and make them "Fiends" like the rests of us.

7 nights is a great length to stay, we usually do 10.

Call NOW as these dates are Spring Break for some and very near Easter ( March 23rd ).

I would suggest going to the book store and getting the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World With Kids". Excellent guide.

You will be put on a full hookup site but just in case I would ask for a pet loop so if you do bring your "furry kid" there won't be any issues.

And finally, from me at least, read the postings here on the DISboard. You will learn a great deal from these fine folks. :disrocks:

Is it best to call to make reservations? Or use the Internet? Thanks

I would call and the sooner the better. Since some of the loops are being worked on, there may be some reservation difficulty.

I agree and you can use the internet, but if you don't get it that way call anyways. There seems to be a lag and somewhat of a disconnect in what the internet gives you and what the CMs can do if they know the ropes.

Great - looking forward to the help and to becoming a fully fledged "Fort Fiend"!

We were in loop 900 last week for a short stay. We were on the purple bus line which ran quite often and stopped very close to the site. The restrooms are very clean, air conditioned and spacious. This loop doesn't have cable hook up but we received 10 channels of TV with the BT Cruiser antenna. The water, electrical and waste water hookup was located in a great location. There were cook out facilities nearby. The pad was level and well-maintained. It is easy to get to the Magic Kingdom by water transportation, which stops very often. Buses also take you to the Hoop de Do Revue location and Trails End Restaurant and to the other theme park and resort locations.

This loop is right across from the Meadow Trading Post and close by to the pool. Rentals for golf carts are in a building right there. There were video games also in that location. :woohoo:

Any questions? Check in took about 10 minutes and was a breeze. OH, I would call Customer Reservations Office (CRO) very soon to book. :cool1:

Well, I did it - I've booked our 7 night stay at Ft W in March 2008. DId it over the 'net, and will call to request the pet loop even though I did make a note on our booking anyway.

Yeah!! So excited!! DH and I danced around the living room and completely shocked the kids who can't comprehend the 4 month wait!
