Camping in March?

Hey, I found these boards yesterday... We are planning a trip to Disney around the second week of March next year. We want to camp (in a tent) but we haven't ever been to Disney (or FL) in March. Is it to cool at night to be sleeping in a tent? Thanks for any help. You all seem to know everything about this topic.

No, it is not too cool in March to tent camp.

In fact, that is probably the best time of year to tent camp.

That is really great news. My kids have there hearts set on camping. But I was unsure, because where we live we could be buried in snow in March.

March is a wonderful time to camp at Fort Wilderness. If you are tent camping, try to get Loop 1500. It is small and right across from the Meadowlands Recreation area.

Thank you for that tip. I've been reading all of the great post on here, and have been getting tons of ideas and information.

Does anyone know if there is a discount with AAA?

We stayed in the 1500 loop last week - 5 nights for just under $200 with the AAA discount. I called the Disney reservation line and they handled it for me. We were in 1502 and it was nice and close to the comfort station and bus stop. If I had been in a tent, though, I wouldn't have wanted to be THAT close to the bus stop. Our pop-up camper has an air conditioner that helped block out the noise. The first bus was about 6:30 each morning. I might recommend the sites right after the comfort station - starting 1504. Still close but a bit away from the bus stop noise.

YEP there is a 15% discount for AAA. Make sure you tell them when you make your ressies.
Also if you are sure of your dates make your plans now as you could run into spring break and could be crouded or full

Thanks for the tip. We won't have the money to pay for it until January, but we know we are going to go... Would they take reservations without paying?

15% is a good amount off of the price.

I've sent an e-mail to my AAA guy. They told me on Disney that for the packages I have to contact AAA travel agent to get the full discount. So we will see what happens. I'll have a little extra money in my next pay for some overtime, so I can probably book then.

You can call Disney yourself and get AAA full discount, I always book myself and got 20% for Oct. Dont wait to long as March is some of the Springbreak times..

If you want to book just a campsite and get your tickets separately without any type of package, you can call Disney directly and make your reservations with a AAA discount.

If you want a AAA package, then you would need to book with AAA Travel.

Personally, I would contact rhonda@dreamsunlimitedtravel.com and have her handle everything. She can get you AAA discount on the campsite, and will check regularly for any other discounts. (Rhonda is out of town this weekend, but will be back in the office on Monday.)

For tickets, I would go to undercovertourist.com They have great prices on Disney tickets and are totally reliable.

This is how the AAA discount works. Each resort has so many "rooms" available for the AAA discount. We have had years when only a portion of our trip had the discount available.

Agree that you should make a room-only reservation immediately by calling Disney reservations. Ask for the AAA discount. You might need to give them your AAA number and you also might need to show your card upon check-in.

For room-only reservations, they charge you one night immediately and the rest is due upon check-in.

In the past we have found that Ft. Wilderness becomes sold-out on the weekends (locals) but that there are more sites available during the week. This is the primary reason to book ASAP ... you can always adjust your dates later. March is usually pretty busy as well.

We used to guess which week we would have our school's spring break and then book a full three weeks as soon as I could (1+ year out). Then as soon as I knew the dates for sure, would call and cancel the dates I didn't need.

Again, it's the weekends that get filled up, so you will want to book ASAP.

We booked our trip threw AAA. The deposit is down...now we are working on paying it off. But I'm really glad we did book it, like all of you suggested. Because for the tent camping in the time that we wanted to camp in March is all full now. At least that is what Disney is reporting. So Thanks!
