has anyone camped near Isle of Palms that can recommend a campground?

I use to live in Mt. Pleasant and I don't remember any campgrounds there. We weren't camping back then so I might have over looked them. I know there are very nice county parks in Charleston County and I believe there is camping at the park on James Island. That is close to Folly beach rather than Isle of Palms. Good luck with your hunt. Off topic, but I highly recommend Jack's Cosmic Dogs and Seewee Seafood restaurant while you are there!

There is not a campground on IOP but there is a KOA close by in Mt. Pleasant.

We camped at James Island last year over the long July 4th weekend and had a great time. There is a nice water park directly across the street - we rode our bikes over there the 2 days we went.
We spent the afternoon and evening of July 4th on Folly Beach and had a blast. They did fireworks and we just had a great time.
I really fell in love with Charleston and the surrounding area when we were there. There is MUCH good food. Our fave spot was RB's on Shem Creek. :)
